dCS to launch a reference USB to SPDIF converter
Guys, relax. I don't have a problem with the 1% at all, and I am not the least bit jealous. I'm doing quite well myself, although I have not quite hit the 1% club yet. Although I can't afford $10K USB converters, I have one on order for $2250. For...
Processor DACs
without the benefit of heaving heard either the wyred4sound or the integra, it is very likely the stand alone dac will blow the processor out of the water on the basis sonics of the DAC alone. However, keep in mind that you will of course no longe...

Always good to know the 1% is alive and well.
Best Rock Album in 2012
Not sure if it qualifies as rock, but I just picekd up a copy of "Boys and Girls" by "Alabama Shakes". Phenomenal stuff.
Any hope for SACD?
This issue is not SACD /DSD per se. Blu Ray audio can carry encoded high rez multi channel LPCM audio that is sonically at par with SACD. Unfortunately, there appears to be little appetite for actually releasing much music only content on Blu Ray....
Any hope for SACD?
Buconero117, Kinf of Blue is in fact out on SACD.
Any hope for SACD?
Forget SACD. Much to my regret the format is dead. You can take some comfort in the fact that high-rez computer based audio will be taking off in a big way. Unfortunately no multi channel of course, but two channels of SACD level quality/resultion...
2 channel priority in HT Processor...who's is best
additional benefit of the casablanca route is you can upgrade to an external DAC (GenVIII) using a digital output card with the CBIII HD. The CBIII controls volume on the DAC, which is also used for mains in multi channel application. Not cheap, b...
DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog
Steve, that sounds like a reasonable approach. One 3 feet trip to the audio rack to set volume on the DAC for each listening session is doable. I will wait for the offramp 5 I ordered to arrive first, but my next project may well be a shootout of ...
DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog
Steve, the Trinnov has digital in/out. It also operates as a crossover. I use the Trinnov DAC for my subs, and the Trinnov digital out into my PS audio DAC. I do lots of late night listening to music that don't need the subs, so I could play this ...
DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog
I use a PC with JRiver 17 (tried to get the JPlay plugin to work - no joy). From what I gather, playing in any WASAPI / ASIO mode the slider does not work. I control volume digitally in the Trinnov 4 channel processorhttp://www.trinnov.com/product...
DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog
Isn't it fascinating how different well respected digital audio design engineers can express diametrically opposing views on something as basic as loss of resolution in digital volume controls or lack thereof. Engineering is supposed to be an exac...
DAC/Pre's Digital attenuation vs. analog
I have done a few shootouts between setups using volume controls on the DAC, and uning preamps, and finally ended up settling for "DAC direct" (PS audio perfectwave MKII). Prior to the arrival of the MKII, I found a slight advantage in using an ve...
Extremely well recorded jazz double bass? cymbals?
You can have both on the same disc. Lenny white on drums, very busy on cymbals, and Stanley Clarke on acoustic bass - well recorded. Get "Jazz in the Garden".Another well recorded disc to get with nice acoustic bass and fine drumming is Tethered M...
I feel like a toothless hillbilly - PW DAC
In order to be able to connect a drive to the network (i.e. to your router via CAT5), you need a NAS drive. NAS drives are quite a bit more expensive than a standard USB harddrive drive. I am using a synology NAS, but there are others that are pro...
