Tube and Tube Socket Cleaning sounds to me like the tube is bad, not the socket. It follows from side to side when moving that tube? Send it back. -Ed
New to the tube world Dont' bother with Upscale - unless you bought your BAT piece there, they won't sell any decent 6SN7s to you. (just their policy.) the Red Base 5962 are pretty sought after, though a lot of people dont' think they are the best of the 6SN7 types. Al...
Has anyone heard the 47 labs Shigaraki DAC? Comparison DAC's were internal dac in Sony XA7ES and a Muse 2+ DAC. I like 47 labs in general, but the shigaraki dac just wasn't my cup of tea. I have the Gaincard amp, which I think is their best product (esp. bang for the buck) that I have heard...
Has anyone heard the 47 labs Shigaraki DAC? I had one for several weeks on loan. It's a nice DAC, certainly. Still, I opted not to keep it, it didnt' beat my other 2 DAC's in terms of sound. -Ed

211 power amp Go check out the tube DIY forum on www.audioasylum.com - many good resources there. The other place to get good info would be from back issues of Sound Practices magazine or the folks on the related list, called the "Joelist". have fun, be careful...

Counterfit Telefunken Tube? Sure, post them. there's some distinguishing characteristics. Sometimes the diamond isnt' really clear, and sometimes (rarely I think) not present at all. more importantly how do they sound? _Ed
7308 tube code question In the case of the delta being in paint on the tube, that doesnt' signify holland manufacture. the * does mean US made, sorry I didnt' notice that in the orig. post. Tube codes such as * and delta are always etched on the amperex, near the bottom ...
Tubes-are they limited to the circuit used in? hi George - Agreed, the 5's are a sweet set of amps. Fortunately the front-end tubes are a lot less in terms of quantity and price, though 5751s can get pricey, still not EL34 mullard levels. I may need to part with my 5's before too long though, ...
Tubes-are they limited to the circuit used in? I think they are only limited by the rest of the system. amps probably aren't the limiting factor. I'd think speakers would be. I have a pair of $3000-3200 ASL monoblocks (1006-845) with probably $1600 worth of NOS tubes in there...yes, significan...
Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits All the Dire Straits albums are great - get them all, they have nice remasters out now. (though I actually prefer the original version of Brothers in Arms). Most of Knopfler's solo stuff is great as well. He does a very nice piece on one of the Ch...
testing tubes... Just get a decent tube tester - money well spent. the time trying to do it with a multimeter is not worth it, not to mention you cannot do transconductance readings. About the best you could do would be filament tests. -Ed
Aerial 8B's tweeter type ? Some of them (all?) use the same one, though it may be in different packages. I believe the 5 and 10t use the same, not sure on the others. It's a custom unit made by MB Quart. Not available separately, or directly, AFAIK. Doubtful that Aerial sel...
