The Best Amplifier Ever ?
Hey Oz, I am convinced of the beauty (with the pic). Will let you know on the sound when I get these in a few weeks. It's been a long wait. (Since April) but should be worth it. For what they are, a veritable bargain (IMHO).Josh Stippich is the bu...
The Best Amplifier Ever ?
I'd humbly nominate a pair of these:845 monoblockPower, beauty, exclusivity. What more is there? oh yeah, unbelievable sound.-Ed
Any harm in using an amp with the face down
just to get off topic a bit further - as for tube mounting, it depends. Big high-heat tubes (845 for example) only can be mounted vertically. It spec's this in the tube manuals - the RCA manual is a good resource if there's any question. Other low...
Tung-Sol 322NF3 is this 6SL7 or 6SN7 ?
322 is the EIA code for tungsol, so yes it's a tungsol tube. That code says nothing about the type - that should be marked on base or glass. 6SN7 and 6SL7 are not swappable unless the component is specially set up for it (some are. Cary among them...
6SL7 the same as 6SN7 ???
Yes, VT-231 is the military designation for 6SN7s, VT-229 is the designation for 6SL7. Curiously, 6SL7s are about 1/2 to 1/4 the price of equivalent 6SN7s. (at least at the moment)FWIW,-Ed
Can ADS C2000 X-over be modified for L1590 spkrs?
the PA1 Biamp modules are a nice addition. They come up from time to time on Ebay or here on Agon... I think they fit L1290s and L1590s, but not sure. In some ways the L1290 and L1590 are basically poor-man's-Aerials. The philosophy is similar (no...
6SL7 the same as 6SN7 ???
It's true that they are not interchangeable per se, but they are somewhat close (relatively).. both dual triodes, differing mu. However, 12SN7 is not a sub for 6SN7 in any way, (nor 12Sl7/6SL7) without changing the heater voltage. The 12-series tu...
Can ADS C2000 X-over be modified for L1590 spkrs?
Check with Mike Kelly at Aerial - Those speakers date from his reign there @ ADS. www.aerialacoustic.com Good luck. L1590s - probably the best floor stander they made, at least in my experience. (had L1290s for a long while)-Ed
Audio as a hobby
Good point on the skiing - that's my winter avocation. Working for the 4th largest ski area operator in the US gets me plenty of free slopetime when I can take it. Eastern-based but we have resorts out west so that's where I go when I can. Heli-sk...
Audio as a hobby
Car racing: SCCA, COMSCC, BMWCCA - it's about as expensive as audio and you have to work on the gear (the cars) way more than rolling tubes, etc. A hell of a blast, no doubt.-Ed
Review: Martin Logan CLS IIZ Speaker
hi Nalu - in my experience, Maple is one of the harder woods available... at least as hard as walnut/oak,etc... and with denser grain... It tends to be expensive vs. oak etc., however. ML does do aniline dye finishes - I find them ugly too, but wh...
Tubes: 12AU7A or 12AX7 or can one mix them?
5u4G and 5u4GB should be fine to interchange. Those are also interchangable/compatible with some other rectifiers if needed. Agreed, do not swap the Au7s and AX7s - not the same tube in many ways, unpredictable results if you do so. OA3 is a cold ...
Review: Martin Logan CLS IIZ Speaker
Some other thoughts re: CLS vs. CLSII vs CLSIIz... the originals are considered better, though nicely enough they are usually cheaper. I found my pair for well under $2000, and that's with 3-yr-old panels, a recent checkup by ML and the rather rar...
Review: Martin Logan CLS IIZ Speaker
A few points of clarification. the original poster mentions "later iterations". The CLS IIz is the last iteration, there is no later one. They have plenty of low bass, its' just not overemphasized like a lot of box speakers. They go below 40hz in ...
