SQ Touch and Bolder Cable Mods
I've got an SB3 with the Bolder digital mods, Bybee filters and the older Ultimate power supply. It outperforms any cd player that I've owned. And you can't beat the convenience, especially when I use my iPhone as a remote.
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
FWIW, I'll share my experience on this.I once heard a demo at a local shop. It was a recording of an acoustic guitar. Nothing else. Don't remember exactly what speakers I was listening to. I listened for a while, it sounded very nice. The dealer t...
portable ipod speakers?
Don't know how "portable" you're looking for, but I have this setup and it sounds really nice.
Is speaker accuracy important for a rock speaker?
I agree, Klipsch Fortes or Cornwalls are great rock speakers!
Should Equalizers make a comeback?
I use a Behringer DEQ and can't imagine not having it. I actually tried to go without it for a while and went back. My room has a couple of nasty "peaks and valleys" that the DEQ can smooth out for me, not completely, but a little. I send a digita...
Tube amp, more low end
Just to update what I'm doing. I just bought a Gallo sub amp, so I'll give that a try and see what I think. If I can get the low end that I've heard out of these speakers with my ss amp and the realism that I'm getting with the TAD 60, I will be a...
Help buying fullrange speakers for $1500
Another vote for Vandersteens. I've seen 2ce Sig II's and even 3a Sigs for that price. Haven't heard the 2ce Sig II's, but the 3a Sigs are all the speaker I'll ever need.
DAC Magic or MF V-DAC?
I've owned the Benchmark DAC 1, the PS Audio DL III, as well as a Musical Fidelity V-DAC, haven't heard the DAC Magic. To me, the Benchmark was too bright/harsh. The PS Audio was very nice, smooth yet detailed. But I ended up keeping the V-DAC. For...

In-wall speakers recommendations
I have Polk in-walls that are pretty darn good, I think I paid about $150/pair. But if I were buying right now, I'd buy the Parasound in-walls that Audio Advisor has on sale for $89.FYI, no affiliation with Audio Advisor.
AMP Upgrade for Martin Logan Aerius i setup
I spent some time with a Krell 400xi, I was very pleased with it. Not bright or harsh like what I've heard about other Krells. You could buy one, try it and if it doesn't work for you, sell it for pretty much what you paid for it.
Headphone Amp for Work
For the money, the Creek is pretty darn good. I owned one for quite a while. I only upgraded because I got a killer deal on a Headroom amp.

Please help -- DAC newbie needs wisdom.....
I recently bought a Musical Fidelity V-DAC to use with my MacBook. It has a USB input, as well as Coax & Toslink. It's suppose to have the internals of a high end DAC, in a basic (cheap) chassis. Supposedly an "audiophile grade" chassis adds a...
