??? My First Classical Concert,What Can I Expect ??? I love Bach, but the Brandenburgs are not my favorite of his over 1000 compositions. Still, they are beloved by many and may grab you too. The delights of Bach, for me, are his sacred works for chorus and orchestra…the Cantatas, the Magnificat, ...
Grade Master3 cartridge--Moving Iron Design Early in my audio sales journey I had the pleasure of meeting Peter Pritchard as he was launching the Sonus line of cartridges. Peter gave us a brief curriculum vitae tracing his work at GE Labs where he was on the team that developed the “variab...
"Good" Music Explore Bruce Cockburn’s discography. Unbelievable guitarist, rich voiced singer, and many songs carry a decidedly “woke” message, which might be a feature or a bug, depending…but the audio fidelity captured is outstanding on many of his releases...
Integrated that blew you away The NAD M33 got an awful lot of love when it came out. PuriFi amp, Dirac Live, BluOS streaming, MM/MC phono. But the best integrated amps I have heard is from Ayre.
Looking for recommendations for outdoor speakers Look into Coastal Source. I’ve done numerous outdoor projects with AM-1s, KEFs, Sonance, and various custom subs. Coastal Source is top notch.
Need Recommendation for Coffee Shop WiiM is not compatible with Airplay 2 AFAIK, so that’s out of contention. I agree with the all-in-one wireless speaker advocates. My suggestion is Bluesound Pulse Ms, start with 2 and add more if you feel the need.
How Much to Spend on Turntable, Cart., Phono Pre Knowing you have stable floors means you can buy anything you like! I had a 30+ year run with a Well Tempered Turntable and Tonearm. I would recommend one for anyone. SOTA is another great option, and Origin Live arms are pretty great.
How Much to Spend on Turntable, Cart., Phono Pre I’magonna ask you something rarely asked. Does your listening room rest on a concrete slab, a rickety old house trampoline floor or something in between? Because it matters in terms of day in day out livability. DO NOT go for a Linn LP12 or simil...
How much do I need to spend to make vinyl sound better than digital? If I hadn’t spent countless hours in record stores and reading The Penguin Guide to Classical Recordings, I would never start with vinyl now.
Exceding recommended power rating Overpowering compact speakers means pushing the woofer beyond the limits of its range of motion. That makes a loud popping noise, which is unmistakable. As long as you don’t hear that, you’re good. Most speaker damage comes from ignoring the audib...
Best Holographic Speakers ~$7k per pair So the guy at Upscale told you Sopra No.1s don’t image? Did they have a pair for you to judge for yourself? They may not be the right speakers for you, but the reason would not be that they don’t image! I think your room may be too large for th...
Best Holographic Speakers ~$7k per pair Carefully set up, many speakers can sound holographic. It helps if they are well positioned and have well controlled off axis and overall even power distribution. If you can hear Focal Sopra No.1s they are exemplary and might hit your range used. ...
Technics SL-1300G Turntable issues We here are all rightly ganging up on Matt, who is entitled to his opinion of course. But as to the OP, you’re absolutely right about the cheezy feel of the cueing mechanism on the current Technics line. I have an SL100C and it’s my only complaint...
Revel F36 or Dali Oberon 7 If you value bass impact you’ll prefer the Revels. If midrange warmth and smoothness are more important then the Dalis. Have you tried B&W 603s? Not as slammin’ as the F36 or as warm as the Obi 7, but a nice blend of both speakers’ strengths.
You can't hear dialogue because it doesn't matter The use of horizontal MTM layout makes common center channel speakers SUCK (out) due to inevitable lobing effects. The configurations that make sense are 3 ways with vertical MT and coincident. |
