Fosi V3 Mono Break-In
I have a pair with a single 48V/10A supply and splitter.  I am surprised how warm they get for class D, but overall find them excellent.  In my use application I can swap them out with a new- build Dynaco ST35 and they do not sound worse!
Speakers for Luxman LX-380
First, that Luxman L380 is a gorgeous piece of equipment!  20W of tube power is enough to make excellent sound with a huge variety of reasonably efficient speakers.  Just avoid small ones that try to have deep bass…and adjust your volume expectati...
New Speakers under consideration - but I’m afraid
Check the Dali Epikore line. New model is priced at $40K per pair. I have spent time with the $60K Epikore 11 and it is one of the most effortlessly natural sounding speakers I have heard. I am very familiar with B&W 802 D4, Focal Sopra, Utopi...
Deciphering Integrated Specs - Step Up Matching
You may be (are) over analyzing.  The 2.5mV input sensitivity MM phono spec is bog standard 40dB gain.  The Output 2 spec adds the maximum linestage gain.  The 80mV input overload spec is generous so a LOMC run through a 12x SUT should be perfect....
Help needed with new integrated amp.
Any amp with flat FR will sound much the same.  The answer is to add equalization.  Either DSP or analog, but you’ll need a processor loop in the preamp.
Need to purchase a separate ground cable - from my TT to my Phono Preamp
Electrons have become very fashion conscious lately...conductors must be silver plated, have at least 6 Nines, clad in PTFE jackets, with gluten-free packaging. In other words, standard 20 ga. hookup wire with or without spade lugs crimped on sho...
The Low Volume Loudness Dilemma
The problem with loudness contour functions in most implementations is that they fail to calibrate to a reference level.  Most overcompensate, and become boom generators.  In this respect, Yamaha’s variable loudness is superior to others.  The bes...

McIntosh MC312 vs. ARC Reference 150
Your question is baffling to me.  The MC312 has autoformers between its outputs and the load, and the ARC has transformers like most tube amps, and with its higher output impedance will interact with the speaker more than the MC312.  Your speakers...
Time For a CD Player Upgrade
The most natural sounding CD player I have heard is the Ayre CX-8.  A bit above your stated budget new, but someone with audiophilia nervosa may put one on the used market…
Rega Planar 3 upgrades
Buy a used Dual 502, 504 or 505 model.   Or…a Technics DD with S shaped arm.  Many out there for sale under $400.00.
Is Recording quality the real culprit?
When I was a young person over half a century ago I thought that a bad recording was doomed to provide an unsatisfying listening experience too.  Then I got a pair of Stax electrostatic headphones, SR-5s.  One night, after enjoying Workingman’s De...
What is your "holy grail song" that you cannot find?
I have a bootleg of Little Feat Live Oct. 31, 1975 at the Orpheum Theater Boston on cassette, burned to CD, but it's nowhere near the original broadcast quality heard on the day/date on WBCN.  My rommate recorded it on a Sony 10" RtR at 7.5 ips of...
Quick question for the Cables Don't Make a Difference Crowd.
Cables do sound different...a little.  But for HiFi stores' profit margin...a lot!  This is the legacy of the Head Monster, super salesman Noel Lee.  IME, compared to room acoustics and proper speaker placement, they matter little.  High value bra...
Do any McIntosh preamps have non digital filter for bass and treble?
Any model with 5 or 8 rotary EQ controls, whether preamp or integrated amp has analog domain circuitry. That’s C51, C52, and the current C55. The digital part is a slide in module, only a DAC, and has no EQ function. edit:  these are EQ controls,...
