@shakira - Nice response! Simple, clear and to-the-point! I like that...
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
It's just me and the sweet spot fuzzy. Going to give the "swarm" a try first.
have you ever bought stereo without listening first
@lobinero - If you are making a major purchase from someone on the verge of retirement. Definitely ask if he is selling the business to anyone (who will support his legacy equipment). If he isn't, ask for schematics and parts list so you can provi...
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
How does this sound: My B&W "12 inch" ASW-650 plus a spiffy Polk 12 incher recently purchased for HT and the four six-inch woofers in my B&W 804d3s? Is this "swarm" enough? If it works, I could swap the B&W for HT duty and get another ...
6H30 tubes vs the others
I've been using the 6H30, in pre-amps, amps and integrated amps for 20 years. never noticed any microphonic anomalies (used with and without tube dampers).
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
I'm pretty sure a single 15-inch SW will give me what I want. But being retired, cost is a consideration. In my smallish (12 X 13) room, I could use the tube SVS as a plant stand and it doesn't take up much room (as well as being affordable). Than...
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
I'm totally happy with what my single B&W sub is doing. I only wish it would go lower. Technically, it is producing sound in the lower, 20-ish, frequencies but probably down 5db or more. Its amp+cone just can't pump out the gusto. The 200 watt...

Interesting. Any more opinions?

Never heard but they have a sterling reputation. You have to look at the design features (usually stated in reviews or maker’s website). The big elements with amps are: Class of operation e.g. Class-A, class-AB, class-d, etc.. Each class has posit...
6H30 tubes vs the others
The military grade (DR NOS) 6H30 is a truly great tube. These were manufactured pre Y2K (year 2000) and are scarce and very expensive ($200 - $300 each). That said, the quality of current production is mediocre (sound and durability). There is a l...

More Power or use subwoofer to boost bass for music
My thoughts: 1. The speakers can sound "punchier" at the dealer because they usually crank-them-up. Since a typical Magnolia room is larger than a normal home room, they can play a lot louder without overloading the room. Being placed close to the...
ARC LS27 with 6H30P-DR tubes
It's funny because the magazines at the time (10-15 years ago) said that Victor (owner of BAT at the time) had bought up all remaining stock of the DR tubes. Victor is from Russia and probably had connections there. Now, magically, there are more ...
