Oppo 105 vs. 205 in playing SACDs
Another "advantage" of the 205 is decoding of MQA encoded CDs. However, the machine is noisy as it decodes. The music generally masks the noise (think PC ripping CD to hard drive) but I would locate the machine behind the wall (and pass thru the i...

Mark Levinson HF-2.5C speaker wire
FYI, Not necessary to tri-wire. Bi-wire (split tweeter and mid-bass) will give the most benefit. Then use a quality jumper from midrange post to bass post.Another alternative is using a single wire to start (and jumpers to the other posts). If thi...

Mo-fi Ultradeck owners - popping noise from speaker upon power off
Either a bad cap or sloppy engineering. My cheapo Sony 4k player does this, occasionally,  when resuming from pause. Hope it doesn't blow out my tweeters.

Balanced xlr interconnects for ARC Ref 6se
With a pre that fine, I'd call ARC and ask what they use with it. Call a bunch of ARC dealers as well. Good starting point.

@cantorgale Can't find the Decca version -only Philips label.Throw out a few more examples please. Also, when were your CDs recorded? There's a reason a lot of people hated early digital.
What companies, out of Business, did you LOVE???
Anyone mention Shahinian Speakers? Saw them at Chicago CES in the Nineties. Wish I could have heard them in my home. BTW, I was using the crossover vestibule in the Hilton and bumped into J. Gordon Holt smoking a fag. Always regretted not "bumming...

ISO Advise on choosing Ayre or Bat power amp
John Atkinson ran some tests on this point a while ago and concluded he like the sound better with a pre in the system. I used a VK-300SE for many years and will say it "just makes beautiful music". Adding the VK-225SE now-or-later gives considera...
Seeking advice on high kHz annoyance in my system
@cantorgale - If you can specify which recordings give you the most grief, others can give-a-listen and feedback their results. The distortion may be "baked in" to the recording (in which case it aint never going to be good). Please specify. Thanks
ISO Advise on choosing Ayre or Bat power amp
If your Aerial Acoustics LR-5s can be bi-wired, I'd get a used BAT VK-300SE integrated and add the VK-225SE later. This bi-amp setup will rock-down the house and sound damn fine doing it. Make sure the VK-300SE isn't too old, however, as it's been...
Seeking advice on high kHz annoyance in my system
This drove me nuts for years. My problem was a nasty "zippy" quality that was most apparent in female voices in transition (ascending/descending). Always had soft dome tweeters and some aluminum. Don't have the problem with my current B&W 804D...
