tough sounds to reproduce ??? The Female voice singing transitional opera (i.e. a vibratoed note going from soft to loud, etc.). Almost every system I've heard includes an edgy little distortion product that drives me goofy.

overheating in DVP S9000es? I think the pause midway thru the disk is the read head refocusing and reversing to play the second half of the program. What I'm saying is that a DVD can only hold one hour of program from the inner "groove" to the outer then it has to reverse to...
The Absolute Sound Review of Sony SCD-XA777ES ??? Dopogue: What is the street price for the Sony? Thanks.
ARC VT 100mk ll or mk lll or Bat 75SE????? Traded my Mk-I for a Mk-III around Thanksgiving. I'm bothered by the fan noise (Mk-I had no fan). I'm thinking of disconnecting it. The Mk-III SOUNDS at least twice as powerful as the 'I. It seems to have more color and a lot more detail (even tho...
Just purchased Wilson Maxx's. Now what ?? Amps? Try to obtain a pair ($8000 or so) of BEL Mark-V's. These unassuming amps are the best I've heard (the finest dynamics in the land!). My humble ARC VT-100 Mk III isn't to shabby either.

Hifi dealer in San Diego? I've been to a really great dealer, close to the sports arena where the Clippers used to play, but can't recall the name. I remember they are a Dunlavy dealer and had just moved into a new store (although in the same strip mall) in 1999.
Balanced connection The thing is some manufacturers wire the pins differently on XLR connectors so if your equipment is expecting "ground" and it gets "hot" then there could be a problem. I think this is rare, however. I'd check with Krell to be sure.
Organ.. For sheer glory, try "Mass for Christmas Morning" (Michael Praetorius, composer) on the Archive label. I don't know where my wizard friend Jan finds these works but I'm sure glad he does!
Should Speakers come first in a gradual upgrade? I'd say your biggest BFB would be a quality powered subwoofer e.g. Carver or Velodyne. DO NOT underestimate the effect of a good musical foundation and how it highlights the rest of the sonic spectrum. If your living quarters don't allow you to ex...
Speaker Hum Yabob: There is a device, some sort of isolation transformer, that you can plug your cable T.V. into, which will cure the problem (contact www.audioconsultants.com). Also, using balanced preamp/main amp will work. The cable T.V. folks should take ...
Analysis Plus vs. Harmonic Technology Can't comment on Analysis Plus but have recently installed HT Pro-9 (bi-wired bananas). Sound is fantastic with my AA Dvoraks. Very smooth and balanced with tons of air and detail. Just bought (no wonder I don't own a home) Pro Silway II balanced ...
