Shunyata Hydra
I think my response is a little simplistic. The cabinet is bigger and there is more "magic gook" (the stuff that makes it sound good) inside. And let's not forget the cryoed premium outlets. The value of the 4, 6, 8 is that you don't have to purchas...

Jethro Tull...any cd's to stay away from?
My early issue Aqualung CD is the worst sounding I own.I think they used the master that was equalized for LPs.A real stinker.
Suggestion VT100 MKIII with LS9 Pre-AMP
I used this combination for about three years.I was very satisfied. The VT-100 III is a wonderful tube amp and the LS-9 is very musical. When you can, upgrade the LS-9 to a preamp that uses 6H30 supertube (LS-25 II or REF 2 MK-II).Also, I'd switch t...
Looking for speakers with soundstage depth
Halifax: I agree about the Thiel 1.6s -great soundstage! For some reason, these are a tough sell to the common audiophile.I think it's the old-wives-tale about Thiels being harsh/strident in the treble.Thiels are as harsh or smooth as the component...
Motor repair for Goldmund Studio TT /w Pabst motor
Museum pieces demand only original parts. In the March TAS "Ultimate Analog" issue, we are introduced to the TW Acustic Raven AC-3 turntable. This TT uses three Pabst motors which have been rebuiltby the TT builder, Thomas Woschnick.Maybe he can help.

Please remind us again why you don't use another brand of motor? Unless you are a museum curator, this would seem the way to go.

Anyone send back Magnepan MMG's?
I owned these around 1986 for about two years. After hearing a really good dynamic speaker (Conrad-Johnson Synthesis) in a dealer showroom, I couldn't get rid of them fast enough.
All time favorite speaker cables

I love my Harmonic Technology Pro-9s.Although they didn't work with my low-powered SET, they are magnificent with high powered tubes or SS.
finalists in the big speaker search
I'd add Thiel 1.6 to your list. This speaker (which I own) is smooth, coherent, balanced and disappears nicely. It's easy to drive at 91 db. and sounds great with tubes or solid state.Match it with a good sub (and blue ribbon upstream components) an...
The CD you most listened to back in 2007 ?
Julia Fischer: Tchaikovsky violin concerto & Mozart violin concertos 1, 2 & 5.Both SACD multi channel.Mozart Complete Divertimentos - New York Philomusica CD-2.Divertimento No. 16 in E-flat (for six winds) is utterly beguiling.
most difficult speaker to please
Mitch4tOld tubes? I don't know...I heard this happen at a Stereophile show in Santa Monica circa 1988 (it was a D240 BTW, sorry). At this same show, I admonished Dan D'Agostino ("do you think those are big enough?") for displaying some rather large...
