Phono stage and cartridge
@Daveyonthecoast - They are called "reel-to-reel tape recorders" FYI.
Strange Noise from PrimaLuna DiaLogue One
@awn Tried everything. Different house circuits, "cheater" plugs, power conditioners -nothing helped! Sent the unit to Upscale Audio who said it tested "normal". I loved the sound and it had plenty of bass (!) but couldn't live with the hum. I bel...
Turning the volume up
Just don't forget to turn volume down after playing LPs.
Strange Noise from PrimaLuna DiaLogue One
My trouble was transformer hum in my Prologue premium Int. Mute, no mute came from both channels and was audible from 12 feet away. Speakers were hyper efficient Klipsch LaScalla II horns (but I bought the PrimaLuna BECAUSE I had horns). Had to se...
Best Speakers for Very Large Bright Room
I would look at some di-pole speakers. Di-poles (Magnapan, Martin-Logan ESL, et al) have a positive output in front and a negative output to the rear. What happens is the + and - wrap around and meet at the sides of the speaker and cancel each out...
Phono stage and cartridge
Tend to basics mate. Is you phono cartridge aligned properly? Is your tracking to light or too heavy? Is everything "tight" on your rig (screws that attach cart to tonearm, anything loose that shouldn't be)? Do you use any isolation under your tur...
RIP Dave Wilson
Sad news. Mr. Wilson was a true audiophile and an icon in the community. His legacy will continue through his greatest creation.
Replacing my Krell FPB 600 amp with a tube amp
@tattooedtrackman - I believe your ARC is AWSOME! I've had many ARC components over the years and I put them on a pedestal. Can honestly say that my current system meets ALL of my needs. The only way I'd enjoy it more is A. A bigger room (e.g. 25 ...
Replacing my Krell FPB 600 amp with a tube amp
@tattooedtrackman - It appears that your ARC Ref 6 preamp has two variable outputs and one fixed line out for use with a tape recorder. You pay your $14,000 but you get what you pay for!
Can anyone suggest a decent subwoofer cable that is about 35 feet long.
FYI - I have always used the "line-in" option with powered subwoofers. Just recently, I ran some speaker wire from the speaker posts to the subwoofer. For whatever reason, I no longer get that annoying "thump" when I turn the subwoofer on/off. Tha...
Replacing my Krell FPB 600 amp with a tube amp
@tattooedtrackman "why would i need a subwoofer? "You may not need one. You could try the ARC 250s first and add a subwoofer as needed. I got the impression that you are a tattooedBASSman and tubes just aren't going to give you the "power and bass...
Replacing my Krell FPB 600 amp with a tube amp
I don’t see any advantage to bi-amping in this case. That’s why my first suggestion was for tube amp(s) with a subwoofer. I, myself, am using a BAT integrated (mid & treble) and using the "pre-out" to drive a Bryston 4B3 (bass). The BAT is 150...
Replacing my Krell FPB 600 amp with a tube amp
Probably the ARC Ref 150? Just make sure your amps have equal gain and it really helps if you pre-amp has a variable "pre-amp out" as well as a "main out". Otherwise, you'll have to use a splitter to feed both amps.
Replacing my Krell FPB 600 amp with a tube amp
I'd think about some Carver mono's and an awesome subwoofer (why put all the burden on a single amp?). Also, Carver claims to run his tubes in a manner that they last 20 years (instead of the usual two).
