cost no object integrated amps
I have experience at home with the Vitus SIA-025 and the Vitus SIA-030 as well as numerous separate pre/power combos.  At shows I have heard the T&A and ch precision. My view is that the Vitus SIA-030 is a phenomenal amp, better than anything ...
Integrated amp suggestions.
Vitus are a Danish high-end company who make three fabulous integrated amps. I have demoed all three and own two of them and all sound wonderful. Their latest, the SIA-030, has received numerous awards in Asia and Europe recently. Class A to 30W a...
What the heck do these terms mean?
For anyone, genuinely interested in audio terms, commonly used by reviewers, etc, here’s some reading from a few years back: https://www.stereophile.com/reference/50/index.htmlThanks. That’s a really informative link.  Interestingly "organic" was ...
Anyone with tinnitus or hearing loss who is into "high-end" audio?
I have had tinnitus (no hearing loss under 6Khz) for 4 months and hyperacusis for a couple of years.  If you have either of these make sure you avoid high volume environments, or at least wear earplugs if you do.  You can get earplugs moulded to y...
Best songs to test speakers
Thanks for sharing.  It’s an interesting selection.  I like the listening notes that accompany the choices too.
Are your speakers designed for your listening taste and hearing ability?
@daveyf I think you may have young ears.  As you get older you do lose the upper frequencies, but until you get very old (80+) you will, on average, have all the main frequencies for music in tact bar the odd splashy cymbal. But what a lot of over...
Slot, tray, or top load?
+1 @nonoise the question was not about CD vs streaming.  No need to evangelise about the joys of streaming on an unrelated thread. Toploading for me, although a manual closing tray like Naim do, is a good compromise if you don’t want the CDP atop ...
Higher End DACs
I spent some time trying to get my network bridge (ie. a streamer with no dac) to sound as good as my CD transport. I eventually achieved this through cables and adjusting settings on the bridge. And so in theory there is no need for me to play CD...
Looking for recommendations for a 'warm' sounding DAC
Thanks for all these recommendations.
Looking for recommendations for a 'warm' sounding DAC
Thank you all very much for some excellent suggestions. I will be checking many of these out.
Looking for recommendations for a 'warm' sounding DAC
I must ask, why are you using B&W’sThese are my old main system speakers which have moved to the secondary system.  My wife loves the compact and beautiful look of them. Sonically they are light on bass which is perfect as they are squashed in...
Looking for recommendations for a 'warm' sounding DAC
What DAC are you using now?So this is my second system - a Naim 180/82 into B&W 804s, which is used only for background social listening. At the moment I use it to play Qobuz via Roon through Chromecast Audio. I would like a better DAC than th...
CD Player vs. music streaming
for Classical music I would stay with CD. The streaming services are very bad at organising classical metadata and it is difficult to find the piece you want to listen to by the orchestra or artist or conductor.  Maybe this is will change one day ...
Want a streaming device without DAC in $1K range
I would also recommend the Pro Ject Streambox S2 Ultra.  It is based on a Raspberry pi but has an audiophile power supply and upgraded audiophile components. It is designed by John Westlake of Audiolab MDac fame. And it is very small.  If you go f...
Is it a good idea to buy CD players over 10 years old even it is a reliable brand?
From costly experience I would advise only buying a second-hand CD player if the full transport mechanism is still available. Furthermore, if you like the sound of the player you buy, I would budget for purchasing a spare transport as soon as poss...
