Computer Audio – Help Getting Started
Rwwear - I use both. For most new, good quality CDs they rarely show rip errors. J River will rip them fine. It gives a report that tells you if it had to retry any reads. If there are no errors, I just use that. dBpoweramp is better at reading da...

The Berekley Audio AlphaDAC is also well regarded. I would add it to your list to consider.
Naim Nait 5i-2 for Totem Sttaf
Thanks for the feedback. I ordered the 5i today. Should be a great match with the Sttaf.
HT amp for my father - advice please
Outlaw Audio has the Marantz SR5005 for $500 with free shipping. It is a 7.1 receiver with zone 2, pre-outs, 100 watts per channel. I think you might still need to add external amps for best performance, but the Marantz might be a start.
HT amp for my father - advice please
When you say $500 amp, do you mean a home theater receiver? If so, using its amps it is not going to do justice to the Concertino, although if he is just listening to mp3 music, it may not matter a lot. If these are the old Concertino bookshelves,...
Peachtree Nova or Jolida Hybrid Integrated
Layman -thanks, that is helpful. The Peachtree seems to be a nice DAC with an OK power amp, whereas the Jolida seems like it may be a bettr amp. The Peachtree has a switchable power supply, which is useful since this unit will go to Europe. But I ...

Moving to Singapore. Help needed
I am going through a similar search for electronics to go to Europe. Here is what I have found. Most main line dealers with standard brand names will not sell you 240 V gear. There license will not allow it - to protect the overseas distributors. ...
Sonus Faber Cremona vs. Cremona M again, I know
I agree with the sentiment here. To generalize, the original Cremona are musical and very easy to listen to, like you Auditors. Cremona M are more "modern" and lean towards a detailed/analytic sound. The original can be finicky about what is drivi...
I got the USB DAC per everyone's sugguestion BUT..
The M2Tech HiFace will do 24/192. It is a USB to S/PDIF interface and does require a special driver. It then has to connect to a DAC. I just looked at the Musical Fidelity M1 DAC to do 24/192 (over S/PDIF) with a HiFace. The M1 DAC accepts 192 on ...
Musical Fidelity - M1DAC - 192 KHz input problem?
I have not seen anything from MF that discusses the 96/192 issue that Atkinson noted. My old A3-24 has a setting to upsample to either 96 or 192. The M1DAC seems to upsample everthing to 192. Typical Nyquist-Shannon theory would suggest that a 192...
Good CD for testing bass response
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly. Or, some E. Power Biggs organ.
Musical Fidelity - M1DAC - 192 KHz input problem?
Dchan88 - thanks for the link. Note that the author of the original article says he does hear a positive difference in going from 96 to 192, although he offers no real detail on his sources or equipment. On your Oppo, have you tried music that was ...
Bill Evans - Waltz for Debby - New on HDtracks
Emailists - Thanks. Sounds like it is worth giving it a try.Schipo - seeking out higher quality versions of old favorites and seeking out new artists are not mutually exclusive. Well done high rez can be much better than existing CDs. It can be a ...
random duplicate files in J River MC-15?
My first thought would be to start over. You can do File, Library, Clear Libary to start with a completely new version of the library. It should not delete the current files. Re-create the flac files from the wav files in a completely new director...
