Your First Concert was.....
First rock concert was The Blues Project in April 1966. Early acoustic concerts included Peter, Paul & Mary, Bud 'n Travis, Glen Yarbrough, New Christy Minstrels.
Clarinet concertos anyone?
I second the recommendation for Finzi's clarinet concerto. Also, I am fond of a recording of piano and clarinet pieces from Peter Serkin and Harold Wright on the Boston Records label.
What is the BEST sound card to use with a MAC G5
Is there even such a thing as a sound card for Macs? It's all built in.
Technics SL1200MK2 Cartridge Discussion
but after hearing my old table with the fluid damper on I probably wouldn't have sold my Technics.Do you think it would be competitive with your Clearaudio?
Benchmark DAC 1 - first thoughts
That's a good assessment, Marty. James, you may also want to consider the Lavry DA10 at about the same price as the Benchmark. Compared to the Benchmark, it is warmer, smoother and less analytical.
Question about making 2.1 home theatre work
As I said before, that doesn't get me the 2.1 I'm after. It may be the only solution, but it's not ideal.

downsize from ARC CD3 MKII to $1500 CDP happily?
You could consider a solution such as an Oppo DVD player (<$200 new) and a Lavry or Benchmark DAC (<1000 new). You'll need a digital cable (Stereovox, <$200).
Stand out phono stages
Great report, sirspeedy. I do wish you would use the space bar a bit more, though. :-)
What is a preamp?
I have found that using an active preamp rather than going direct or via a passive pre tends to produce a bigger soundstage but at the expense of some purity and micro-focus. Active preamps also tend to give you more "drive" and sometimes improved...
Goodbye CD's
The writing on the wall a this time may not be the demise of the CD but the demise of buying them in retail stores. It's all shifted online.
Implications of Esoteric G-0Rb atomic clock
Thanks, I will check that out.
Benchmark DAC 1 - first thoughts
I switched the jumpers and think the sound may indeed be better. But I'm not sure how practical it is in a multi-source system. Through my pre-amp, if the normal listening level for vinyl and Benchmark via RCA is 20, it is now 10 or less via Bench...
