Linn LP-12 still competitive with the very best?
I don't have an issue with the discussion of Linn's marketing practices, What I was referring to was your seeming insistence that we all concede that you are right, that Linn is not the best.

Schipo, give it rest already.Lrsky, your stories are wonderful -- keep them coming! I wish there was a way to create a thread for you, which didn't allow comments, which you could add to whenever you like.
Wi-Fi Fidelity?
Wireless does not degrade the signal, but the answer to your second question is more complicated as it depends on which components you are talking about. DACs vary widely in how well or poorly they implement USB, and wireless servers also are not ...
Recommendations for a "mid-fi" digital coax cable?
Stereovox XV2, which you can purchase online at gcaudio.com. Chris Somovigo's successor to the Illuminati cable. Engineered correctly and well made, works with both RCA and BNC connections. Go for 1.5M just to be safe.

WAV or Apple Lossless Encoder?
I want to try the experiment outlined by Peter_S, Dtc, et al, which Steve had urged me to do weeks ago. In my case, I can rip on a PC using EAC, but would then want to move the file to a Mac for iTunes playback since that is my music server platfo...

Blind test me and I will tell you whenever a system is cabled with Valhalla. Now, is that neutral? Well, could be that Valhalla is the only one that gets it "right," and that turns out to be pretty easy for you to spot.

I have been around long enough to know that there are many roads to sonic bliss and the audio fundamentalists who suggest that theirs is the only way are the blight of these forums. Hear hear!!!
Distortion on piano recordings? Advice appreciated
Do you hear it even at lower volume levels? Might be on the recordings. A lot of sixties-era jazz recordings seem to go into overload on piano.
No grounded outelsts
Get an outlet tester and try replacing one of the outlets with a new 3-prong one. (Be sure to kill the power first.) You may find that you are safely grounded without having to upgrade the wiring. Worked in my 1948 house.
Latest USB converters or music server?
The Empirical Offramp will give you better sound than the Squeezebox, IME.

It's not mounting cartridges that's tough with the LP-12, it's getting the suspension properly balanced. That's what makes people nuts.

The difference between suspended and non-suspended seems to me like it would be a huge point of difference, but I don't hear people talking about it that much. Do most of you clearly favor one approach over the other?

My LP-12 is late-80's vintage, Ittok LVii, no Lingo or other updates. Sounds pretty good. Could I replace it with something like a Rega P5 or P7 or a KAB-modded Technics and be happy, do you think?
