Rega RP3 or Pro-ject Expression III? Thanks Kiko65. The current issue of the Hi-Fi Critic contains a comparison review of the RP3 and RP6, notes significant differences, and concludes that the RP6 represents an even greater value than the RP3. Unfortunately, the comparison was with t...
California Audio Show 2012 I think we're seeing an arms race in several areas: cabinet materials, cabinet construction methods, driver materials, and crossover components. (Just going with top of the line Mundorf caps can send parts costs into the stratosphere.) Whether or ...
Rega RP3 or Pro-ject Expression III? Kiko65 -- you're using a Lyra Delos on an RP3? That's impressive.Upmarket a little, has anyone compared the Rega RP6 with the Clearaudio Concept? Both around $1400 without cart, both unusually handsome, but I'm curious about their sonic characteri...
California Audio Show 2012 The Gallos sounded much better on Saturday. I also spent more time with the Dynaudio Focus 340's and Margules yesterday. Excellent. And as Audioquest was part of that room, the digital source was a Macbook Pro with the Dragonfly USB DAC (which loo...
Opinions on Reference LP Digitization System ... Rod -- great write-up. Could you comment on what differences you heard when you switched from SUT -> LIO-8 to using Andros -> Placette -> LIO-8? RIAA in digital would =seem= to be a good idea when digitizing LPs, but apparently you found ...
California Audio Show 2012 Agree with you about Audio Note. Their rooms pretty much always sound the way this one does -- unfailing in communicating the music and connecting you with it, and without much regard to genre or even recording quality. Also agree about the Gallos...
ok to break in phono preamp w/ non lp source? To follow up on my earlier post about the Granite Audio discs -- they output at suitably low levels for this application, like the KAB device. Which I expect is why the MC and MM discs are separate. The MM output is too great for an MC phono stage...
Opinions on Reference LP Digitization System ... Isn't the Channel D phono preamp sans RIAA, which is then applied in software by the computer? I think there's a very good case to be made for going that way. You can choose from different equalizations, use pop and click removal if you want, appl...
Opinions on Reference LP Digitization System ... You might look at the Lynx Hilo A/D - D/A, which Rob from Channel D has been demoing with lately. It should equal or better the AES16. For the TT/arm/cart part of the equation, I think you need to go for the analog sound YOU LIKE best, though I ap...
Pass labs and wilson ausio sasha w/p I heard the Sophia 3's with XA 200.5 amps a few days ago. Seems like a good combination, though I'm sure other amps can squeeze more impressive bass from these speakers. FWIW, the owner of this system, whose room is large and pickiness nearly unma...
ok to break in phono preamp w/ non lp source? Granite Audio make MM and MC phono burn-in discs for exactly this purpose. I'm not sure if there's a risk in doing it the way you propose.
KEF Q 900 ....... Any experience ? Slightly off-topic, I throw this out as a discussion topic, not necessarily a personal opinion:I think we are seeing a wave of new, moderately-priced speakers that are delivering huge gains from new engineering and design tools plus new materials ...
improving bass on large floorstanders.... Tgrisham, did you do the Sumiko Master Set yourself or have someone do it for you?
Should I upgrade to a Manley Chinook phono pre-amp Can anyone comment on the Chinook compared to a maxxed-out K&K phono pre?
Help Me select Mini Not meant to challenge Steve's expertise but to offer some perspective...I just replaced my circa 2007 Mini with the latest Mini and stuffed it with 8GB RAM. Required a move from Snow Leopard to Lion. IMO, the new one sounds considerably better. |
