What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead?
@rooze    Here's a good summary of the 6922 tubes from Brent Jessee Recording and Supply: OK, SO TELL ME HOW THEY SOUND!! A tough question if there ever was one! The best advice is to get a few types and hear for yourself the good sounds you h...
What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead?
@rooze  While you might not realize it, the Steelehad is definitely "tubey" in sound, compared a neutral.  I had a Steelhead for 15 years, and really enjoyed it.  It's a great phono stage.  As you mention, perhaps, you should tube roll:  the 5687...
What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead?
The Manley Steelhead is $12k. I think an upgrade should be 50-100% more in price, otherwise you’re just looking at different. At the price range you’re talking about, you might not get much of an upgrade, but maybe I’m wrong. I used to own a Stee...
Help with stylus cleaning
I don’t know if it’s related, but when I was using the Onzow Zerodust, my left channel went out on a MC cartridge with less than 200 hours on it.  Since then I tried the StyLast stylus cleaner, the Magic Eraser, a nylon brush, and an electric blow...
Solving the "complex music problem"?
I experienced this same problem with complex music.  While all components play at least a minor role, I found that the amplifier played the largest role in resolving this problem.
Minusk platform
I guess one solution is not to tap on the platform! …or perhaps try some tube dampeners on your phono stage.
Minusk platform
My turntable comes / came with a minus K platform from the manufacturer. I’ve never heard what you are describing. Perhaps you need to turn up the strength of the minus K force so that the turntable is not resting on the platform, but floating abo...
Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
@holmz  I'm not the most knowledgeable about different turntables, so my experience is rather limited.  I've only had a Rega P3, Rega P8, and then made a (very large) jump to the Dohmann Helix One Mk2.  The audiophile friend who's been in vinyl f...
Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
@lewm @mijostyn  I listened to the exact same recordings with the only difference being the Lamm L2 versus the Ypsilon PST-100 Mk2 SE.  Running the signal through the Lamm L2 would cause my system to sound like the Manley Steelhead is back in as ...
Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
So, it's been about 6 months since I bought the CH Precision P1/X1, and it has been a very good experience.  I haven't listened to any digital since I've had the P1/X1 installed, which is a good sign.   The main distinction with this phono stage ...
Digital is far better than vinyl
@gte357s I personally found that digital far exceeded vinyl at a vinyl set up of 10k or less: i.e. 10k digital is far superior to 10k analog. However, in my experience, at the upper echelons, analog is superior. Vinyl probably begins to exceed d...
Gauging interest in a 2008 Continuum Caliburn
As with everything, there will be an interest at the right price.  There have been at least two different Caliburns listed on this site for sale in the past 1 year, and neither have sold.  There's probably a reason for that:  technology may have m...
Want to add vinyl to my system.
Of course, I'm biased, and without extensive experience, but I played my Rega P8 with various cartridges through a Manley Steelhead phono stage / buffer pre-amplifier, which I ran directly into my amplifiers.  It sounded very good to my ears, but ...
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
I think that @pindac has the correct approach:  when children are misbehaving in order to get attention, it's best to ignore them; this approach is colloquially known as "don't feed the trolls" on the internet.
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
Well, my overall assessment is that there are several commenters who always have a positive contribution to just about every thread that they participate in:  @atmasphere @antinn almost always have significantly positive contributions to every...
