Closed back headphones and Focal
I’ve never heard Fostex. Not sure if anyone in my town (Portland) carries them. Has anyone had these for any length of time? I haven’t had good luck with “protein leather” lasting a long time. Also, how is the build quality? The images on line don...

Thanks Chayro
You just won a $5,000 audio gear only gift card
Hmm. Built in cabinets for my vinyl collection?—and if that doesn’t count as an audio purchase, room treatments.
Which is the most important part of a stereo system?
If you are going to buy on credit, at least make sure your home or renters’ insurance will cover said equipment in case of theft, power spike (or good surge protection) fire or other act of God. I’d hate for anyone to be paying off debt on somethi...
Closed back headphones and Focal
Well I can audition but there are things that become clearer after someone has lived with them for a while. I spent a long time deciding on my current open can, between a Grado I loved but found uncomfortable, and some super comfortable HD660s—so ...

Keep their sounds out
Help me understand John Coltrane .... seriously.
This thread has been one of my favorites on AG. Really great, and people sgarung love of music and not going “violent-nerd” on kit. I’ve been a jazz head since 7th grade and JC remains a favorite. But my unles, an accomplished and well-regarded ba...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Boxer12–i hadn’t heard Pere Ubu in a million years. I had to take Joan Armatrading off the spinner and stream some Pere Ubu for a short revisit. I think I saw them at the Peppermint Lounge a ling time ago. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. And...
What's the value of this package
Agreed
New Years Resolution .......
As primarily a vinyl listener, I tend to listen to entire albums. Tim, I don’t care how you or anyone listens to your music, but let’s be factual. The order of an album is rarely the order in which songs were composed. Just like a book is not writ...
Why are brick and mortar HiFi dealers so bad?
Can’t help you on the east coast, but I actually suspect Portland has more audio stores per capita. And they are all awesome, with very little attitude, low pressure, etc. Many allow you to try stuff at home. We also certainly have more record sto...
Forever speakers around $5000
Two speakers I have heard recently and quite enjoyed:Totem Element Fire v2Ariel Acoustics 6TOn sale (floor demos) or lightly used they’d be in your price range. Both are good to around 30-35 Hz of tight focused base. Both throw a wide soundstage. ...
Phono cartridge suggestions sought
Chakster, glad to get a second vote of confidence for that. I am still trying to get an additional SPU headshell for easy swap outs and its not been easy to locate at non-ludicrous prices on flea bay.
Cat jumped on turntable
I feel your pain. I have actually trained my cat not to jump by the tt and it works but she is quite social. YMMV based on the cat’s personality. At same time, she is rarely in the music room without me. I was just pricing a new cover now that my ...
Turntable Advice Needed
The upgraded Goldnote Volare, based on what they learned doing spec work on the Bryston tt is currently on sale and in your range. Ive got the Bryston and at 4 k it compared in an AB with the Clearaudio Ovation (8k). So for $1400 you’d get a reall...
