Looking for phono preamp suggestions
I heard a very nice Doshi v3 used at a local dealer. I think the used price was around your budget. I believe that the version for sale was balanced, but that some of the v3 are single ended. It was out of my price range, so I only listened throug...
Is being an audiophile a disease?
First off, the delusion of perfection or authenticity ought to be dispensed with. It is the utmost in foolishness. But to seek improvement and novelty--what's wrong with that. We are wired to seek new experiences, and so much of human society is de...
Seeking advice on Speakers that create an intimate 2 channel listening experience
I will spare you description because at your budget, you'd be less than diligent if you didn't listen to your choices in person. So without explanation, except I have been impressed with each. Each will deliver many of the goods you have listed as...
My #@%$ Cat Destroyed My ARC REF 5SE. Soliciting Suggestions.
Wharfy, really sorry to hear about the damage. I have a cat also—and guess I should take solace in that my electronics are all sealed.  I don’t like ventilation slots/holes. They are always an invitation for damage. Hope you can find an affordable...
Finally!!! I just purchased some Aerial Acoustics 7T speakers! How do I power them???
Not sure which amp, but when I auditioned those speakers I really liked them. I did hear a touch of bass overhang, so an amp that has firm control of the lower ranges and is speedy might address that.
Jazz for aficionados
I’ve just made my way through Time Life’s Jazz Masters series of Coleman Hawkins. Man, Django Reinhardt on guitar, and Benny Carter sets down his sax to pick up the trumpet. And so many other greats. Great era of Jazz. But gonna swap it out and li...
Why Don't More People Into Music Reproduction At Home Play Around With Musical Instruments
My voice is my instrument. I have an hour of study a week with my vocal coach and put in another 2 or so hours a week singing. Working on a Radiohead song at the moment.
Don't like vinyl
@Surferandy, that is interesting. I dont have those worries but I hear you. Who wants to mess up valuable styli or records? There are some mechanical tone arm lifts you can add to your deck. Fifty bucks for a well known one guarantees the arm will...
Don't like vinyl
@widmerpool That's a fine initial analogy to cast iron pans. But now this former chef has to push your argument further. There are things, you see, that cast iron pans do better than any other cooking medium. Like searing, roasting spices, blister...
Two Turntables? Why
I have a modern table with extremely accurate speed that sounds very clear. It's my daily driver and sounds superb.I have a classic TD124 for that rim drive magic, and to play all of my 16's and 78's (ok, joking, no 16's). It's a classic, and has ...
The very best sound: Direct to Disc
I have a D2D Charlie Byrd on the San Francisco based Crystal Clear label. Good sound and music
Youngsters these days.
I am actually grateful for the 20 second interlude at each side and don’t find it a bother.. Sitting is the new smoking they say. So getting up every 18-20 minutes is probably a good thing for me. Also, I find that the mental energy of making deci...
Jazz for aficionados
I hust picked up Lee Morgan’s Cornbread. Pretty amazing line up playing with him.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
@spiritofradio, yes Palmer had talent. That’s all I have of him on physical media, unfortunately. Worst thing about this pandemic, all the record stores here are closed.
Youngsters these days.
So I have a cd player, a streamer and two turntables. I prefer the sound of records, but streaming is fine quality. What I don’t understand on this thread is the talk of snap, crackle and pop on vinyl. My records are silent. Do people mistreat the...
