Three Cheers for Pass Labs
That IS awesome. Thank you for sharing the good news.
Pass Labs x-1 high gain
yes. the inner detail, even on the x2.5 is the best i've heard yet in my system. That was one of my 1st remarks about the x2.5; the noise floor seems to be so far down, which leads to excellent forward projection of whatever comes into the unit up...
Pass Labs x-1 high gain
Spaz, I have an X2.5 preamp and an X250.5 identical gain structures, different power. I too usually do not go above about 14 on the scale with my 4.5 vrms xlr input...the default gain setting for the preamps (x1, and x2.5) is the lower of the two....
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
When is digital going to get the soul of music?when we stop worrying about it (Detlof corollary 1.0)
Why use CD Transport instead of computer source
Audphile1Very nice test and description of results. Thanks for posting! I am 100% into server based system now and am looking to get a nice new DAC; the DAC3 seems pretty awesome across the board to nearly keep up with the vaunted ARC CD3MKII.
Most important component??
Bob_reynolds, agree 100%I have found that in order of imnportance:1)Speakers (assumed appropriately sized to intended room)2)Speaker placement w.r.t. room and listener3)Amp4)Preamp5)Digital source6)Speaker cables7)CDP/Pre Interconnect8)Pre/Amp Int...
audio research sells out good or bad ?
I would expect more HT from the new ARC now. While I do note the case studies of past buyouts I doubt things will be as doom and gloom as many have posted. Either way it will be fun to watch.
Thiel 3.6, what will drive them best?
aragon 8002!!
Experience with the NAD M5.......
How does this unit sound?my experience with it left me cold. I felt it was boring too smooth on top and therefore too predictable. Used it with NAD M3, and then an ARC VT100MKII into my dyn speakers. It made horrid sounding cd's more listenable bu...

AR LS 26 and Pass Labs X350.5 Compatible?
Bob, that x10 multiplier "rule" is not something I put much faith in. To actually calculate the drop in dB for this kind of case you simply apply the voltage divider principle at a specific frequency. For example if at 20 Hz the output impedance (...
AR LS 26 and Pass Labs X350.5 Compatible?
Bob,I am somewhat troubled by those findings as well, but when you realize the output capacitance it has to be that way. But it seems odd that ~18k for a sota preamp... this should not be the case. To get the most potential from your system specs ...
AR LS 26 and Pass Labs X350.5 Compatible?
I forgot to mention that I have an X250.5 (same input circuits/same drive impedance give or take as the X350.5).For the record, let me state that these single data points are pretty useless. They are mostly marketing figures. Think about it folks....
AR LS 26 and Pass Labs X350.5 Compatible?
The thing that would be nice to know, to give a better feel for this whole impedance gig, is output impedance vs frequency. All too often manufacturer's supply a single figure for output impedance for say, a tube preamp. It's usually at 1 kHz,and ...
Tube sound with no tubes
11k single ended, 22k balanced (what I used)You are right though, it does demand a low enough output impedance across the audio band for no roll-offs.
