Why No Power Button on Some Phono Stages?
My tube preamps are on permanently. No issues. Every now and then I turn them off for a day or 2 to discharge the power supply caps and ensure there is no behavioural memory imprinted into the power supply caps.

Interesting comments on the Terminator linear tracking arm from Dgarretson on the MM thread who has fabricated a lightweight carriage from carbon finer instead of aluminium....08-16-13The wand has dual front and rear counterweights for continuousl...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
Dkarmeli I use the Micro as a reference simply because more people are familiar with these. I personally use the original Final Audio Parthenon VTT1/VSM2 with VDS17 Stabiliser & VM7 Mat which as you mention has a focus on unwanted energy dissi...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
08-18-13: LewmMosin, Would you therefore dismiss any turntable with a light weight platter (and therefore a rather low moment of inertia) as a "contender", just on that basis alone? And if so, what is your cut-off point for "acceptable" inertia, i...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
08-18-13: RichardkrebsI totally agree with your assessment of the SP10 MK3. However this is, IMO not a result of its design, the use of a servo, or DD. I believe it is the way it is built. The tension, greyness and lack of ebb and flow, can be sig...
To ring or not to ring?
Larryi/RedglobeYour posts are spot on. People should think of mats as a transmission device, not an end point. They should drain the unwanted energy away from the vinyl into the platter and beyond.Copper is much quicker than acrylic in terms of dr...
To ring or not to ring?
I have used a variety of copper mats in conjunction with weights & washer or reflex clamp & washer on a variety of TT's and in my experience hard mats such as stainless or copper always sound better with a proper clamp system designed to c...
Lyra Delos and Soundsmith
ChemistFluxbusting - Periodic means every 28 days, unless you are pregnant or past menopause.JCarr's comments above related to a comparison between a Brand New Delos vs a Soundsmith re-tipped Helikon or Argo, the Delos was not retyped/rebuilt.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
There are still some undiscovered nuggets to be found.I would recommend a Shure M95ED. (If you have fat fingers the M95ED cartridge has the added bonus of the Side-Guard Stylus Protection System which responds to accidental side thrusts on the sty...
Waaaah. Snapped off my cantilever.
My experience with Dynavector is that their top of the line cartridges get a full rebuild, they do not do retips. New generators, everything. If you have a top Dynavector and it is more than 2 years old, then I would recommend factory retip ( whic...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I have an open mind, but I also have to ask why bother, since we have identified so many other wonderful cartridges already, and I regard it as unlikely that either of these two is transcendent. An oxymoron if ever I saw. I too have an open mind, ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul et al - back in the late 80's I imported and sold the Talisman Alchemist, Virtuoso and Shinnon Red's. They are all quite good. I ran the Alchemist with a Syrinx arm for a couple of years and it sounded sharp, incisive and musical. The Virtuos...

Richardkrebs,With all due respect the sonic signature of the different materials you outline are meaningless unless the rest of the system is described at the time of testing. For example it might well have been that the system was slow and the co...

06-25-13: RichardkrebsIn order to maintain standards and ensure authenticity…In contrast the 2 off MK2s done in NZ do not, being prototype mules 1 and 2, they were effectively a work in progress. Both of these owners are aware of this and are gett...
