Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Lewm - No they are not in agreement. Halcro does not accept that the deviations in the sine wave are wow and flutter ( as explained by Feickert ). Richardkrebs argued that the spikes were speed corrections generated by the TT error correction, but...

Richard - thank you for reminding me. Yes I see where I have gone wrong - I listen to music at full frequency range, including those above 0.55hz.

10-26-15: RichardkrebsFleib. The error resulting from record eccentricity is surprising.Take a small 0.5mm eccentricity on a 100mm radius and we get around a 1% error. (The tracking radius makes a difference)Nakamichi were on to something way back ...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Halcro, thank you for taking the time to confirm that my original assertions on the disadvantage of using a test record to measure Wow and Flutter were correct.10-23-15: Dover3. Using a record with a fixed tone is prone to error. Any eccentricity ...

Halcro -10-23-15: Halcro..Dover still resorts to imagined 'monsters' from his antipodal 'sleep of reason' as witnessed by4.The timeline only measures the arrival of a single point on the platter at the same place at each time. It does not measure ...
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
Fleib, Speed is never absolute. It is always measured from a point of reference. The planet is rotating, the measured speed on your platter is relative to the rotation of the planet - it cannot be absolute.

10-23-15: FleibRichardkrebs, The measured performance is inferior to actual performance?Wow and flutter can only be measured with an arm/cart. Timeline measures or illustrates absolute speed. Henry has shown that absolute speed doesn't deviate wh...
Nude Turntable Project
Halcro - if the cover is tight, then I would run an earth wire to the cover and then just push it into the cylinder leaving a gap at the top such that it doesn't touch the main TT. As long as the cover is grounded to discharge any electrical build...
Nude Turntable Project
Henry - yes - electrical feedback, not structure born. Try putting the whole thing in the granite bowl with the motor cover attached. I think if Steve McCormack were running a direct drive he would have launched "WonderNappies" along with his TipT...

There is only one way to "redo" old solder joints, and that is to completely strip and clean off ALL of the old solder from both the eyelet and the component. This is incredibly tedious and time consuming. Some folk just wave a wand, melt the orig...
Nude Turntable Project
MDF today is just timber dust that is glued together. The glue is very expensive so in the manufacturing process they put in just enough glue to stabilise the outside faces of the board. In the centre where there is very little glue there is no str...

09-14-15: Halcro...I have just brought in a Victor QL-A7 from Japan for my son (who has recently dived into HiFi and vinyl).Listening to this in my system (with a Signet TK-3Ea/155Lc cartridge) was a sobering experience. This $600 table literally s...
tonearms with VTA-towers for true "VTAF"
Larryi -yYou misunderstand how the ET2 works. The Eminent Technology is a linear tracking arm. On the ET2 if you adjust VTA the overhang does not change. It remains correct at all settings. It is the only arm that accomplishes this. This is about ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Lewm - short answer is I don't know because the Glanz MFG61 came in the original packaging minus the specs sheet. I ran the Glanz MFG61 in the FR64S with a light headshell and 170g counterweight to lower the effective mass as much as possible. Can...
