Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Or in Holt's case, one hopes that his (g)ear evolved such that he could hear the different between analogue and digital. I wonder if the MC2000/transformer combo mimicked the brick wall filters in his ears.

Another tip from downunder - I found plugging the pumps into isolation transformers rather than directly into the mains smoothed the sound out quite a lot even with dual pumps/surge tank etc.

Frogman - that was one point I was going to mention that has not been covered, the tightening of the 4 bolts on the manifold. I tried one bolt tighter than the rest to get a single point ground effect, but ultimately came to the same conclusion as...
Raven AC3
Audiooracle - The new Merrill Williams is dramatically less expensive than the Raven, yet can easily compete with the RavenIt is not possible to compare anything to a Raven...if that was the case I would have gotten a Raven years ago and then I co...

Bear in mind that you are not comparing a Dynavector 17D to an Acutex 420.You are comparing a "Dynavector 17D plus Bob's Cinemag 3440 MC transformer" to an Acutex 420.
The Blue Angel Mantis cartridge
If you had purchased an Air Tight PC1 before the garage door opened you would have paid less than $4000. Now the garage door is open the price is $6800.The Mantis difference between $5000 and $2000 direct is pretty much the distributor and retail ...
VPI Classic Platter- Naked or better with a mat?
Stringreen - you misread my post, I dont ascribe to the complementary colorations school of audio engineering.
VPI Classic Platter- Naked or better with a mat?
Myles, If the best of 2 options depends on the rest of the system, then that suggests both options have strengths and weaknesses. Ergo both have weaknesses. This conclusion seems to me to suggest "complementary colorations" is how you assemble a s...

World's best Pre-amp for $10K and above?
At first I thought someone had been let out of the asylum, then I thought this post was hilarious, now it's become tiresome...now where are those pills
Linear tracking vs. Pivoted tracking tone arms.
Ketchup - I dont just slap arms on decks, I ran an Oracle/Zeta/Koetsu Black for a couple of years prior to the SOTA ET2. In my experience you can optimise high frequency extension on an Oracle by setting the height such that the suspension is quit...

Ct0517 - I would not run an ET downhill, but I get the overhang argument.NOW HERE IS ANOTHER POSER to ponder :With a pivoted arm we have an overhang. The pivot arm/stylus tip moves in an arc, which means that for every 1.8 seconds ( 1 rotation ) t...
Linear tracking vs. Pivoted tracking tone arms.
Davide - I dont see your point with 2 vs 3 body physics. "Radial" arms have split vertical and horizontal bearings and remain 3 body in your hypothesis unless you are using a unipivot.

Frogman - yes. Ed Thigpen's response at the time was "he's probably right".Dgarretson, I use to check the level on my ET2 by balancing it to 0 with an additional counterweight and checking that when nudged the arm would travel freely and the same ...

Now here is a poser for all you guys -An engineer/mathematician friend of mine suggested many years ago that if you run a tangential tracking tonearm and set the stylus exactly on the tangent, then the stylus has no reference as it has no lateral ...
