Who else here is frugal?
Attempting to convince a "frugal" audiophile that he/she holds him/herself back in terms of their listening experiences is marginally less difficult than attempting to lift the North American plate.   :)
Who else here is frugal?
There was a conflicted audiophile who was so chintzy that he played Lotto to fund a state of the art system. He died unfulfilled.  ;)
Should the power be off every time changing cables?
You can make a lot of mistakes with an amp OFF, and it won't blow anything up. You make ONE mistake with an amp on, and it could be GOODBYE!  :)
Moving cables around killed dynamics for days anyone else experience this?
No, your cables did not sound worse; you needed to adjust once again after working with mixes of cables. Nothing unusual here. I build hundreds of systems literally, and what you are describing is common. It is called anchoring, and it's the inabi...
Qobuz sounds better VIA USB vs Ethernet Direct from Gateway, Why?
Often what is taken for a problem with definition is due to tonality. Imo, more definition is never a problem, but if the tonality is off, it will seem so.  :)
Another marketing gimmick?
I have heard that amp, and in the system it was used it was exceptional. However, to make a firm judgment I would have to review it, that is, compare directly with several other amps. That, alone, would tell, as opposed to speculation. It is easy ...
bookshelf speakers to replace my Maggies
There are some options to capture some of the technology of a panel in a small form factor: The Eminent Technology LFT-16A. Also look at the King’s Audio Kingsound Princess III or Queen V.And one cannot forget the Mini Maggies, which may work for ...
Difference in sound between copper and silver digital cables?
pmboyd, between the personal tastes of audiophiles and your preferences, no one here can direct you to the perfect choice. As a reviewer, I suggest you not only consider digital cables, but the companies that most impress you in terms of cabling. ...

Try and learn.
Point of diminishing return for a DAC
Congrats on the new DAC! Recommendation: Try all permutations of gear and cables available to you. Do not be overly discouraged if some of the permutations with the old DAC as good as the new. That is the nature of mixing gear in systems. One simp...
Calling all Legacy Aeris owners
I have not reviewed the Aeris, but have reviewed the V, Valor, Whisper (various versions) Focus, Focus SE, all found at Dagogo.com  Legacy uses their large form factor, large midrange, methods in the Aeris. Imo, there would have to be some anomaly...
How good can it get, really? - my stereo sounds amazing!
tomic601, you said, "One problem with subs is - there ain’t much music down there... listen to just them....."That seems like a strange comment coming from someone who uses Vandy 7's, which have low end response of 22Hz  +/-2dB, or just under 20Hz...
Forever speakers around $5000
"Forever speakers" Women aren’t so stupid. They know that’s what all audio addicts say. :)I think you won't last five years. Tekton strikes me as the kind of company that will keep coming out with different orientations, you know, to keep things (...
How good can it get, really? - my stereo sounds amazing!
I understood the question of the OP as seeking quite significant improvements to the system. Obviously, I was wrong; when outlets and power cords become the primary objective, then one is merely tuning up the rig, not making great advancements. Ad...

+1 geoffkaitAt this point my adage is apropos:The greatest impediment to advancing an audiophile system is the audiophile.
