Pathos Classic Mk 3 Problem, Please Help
First order of business, check connections (sorry if offensive, but weirder things have happened; I had a cable which went bad that mimicked problems with an amp). Second, get a replacement tube. I'm not an expert on tube construction, but it is p...
Cambridge Audio 840c DAC
Kristian, good question! I find the M24 a bit richer tonally, as might be expected a more "tube-like" sound considering it's a tube DAC! That is one reason I keep using it, to get the tube element in the digital chain. Both are superb results; the...
Cambridge Audio 840c DAC
Don't know if you guys have already seen the articles, but I intentionally paired the Cambridge Azur 840C player with the Sonos Digital Music System for the express purposes which are being discussed here. The Cambrdidge review was published on Da...
What planer speaker to start with? Budget 2k
The two strongest contenders in this class for $2k are the 1.6's and the Eminent Technology LFT-8B (upgraded version of the LFT-8A). I wrote the review of the ET for Dagogo.com in which I converted the 8A version to the 8B version and describe the...
Two Subwoofers... Comb Effect
Duke, your room sounded great at RMAF; I especially loved the clean off-axis presentation! Kudos to you for thinking outside the (subwoofer) box!
Filling the void for better sound
Blindjim, I was just trying to encourage you, as you said, "For my next trick, it'll be power tools and itchy scratchy materials." I thought maybe you'd like to have another go at the stands, seeing as how you were so enthusiastic about it! ;)
Efficient speaker, big bad tight bass?
Classic problem of, "I want big bass, but I don't want to 'pay for it', either with space/size or dollars." Isn't going to happen, not ideally at least. Not a negative on the Palladium, as I've never heard it. The 9" drivers will produce lovely ba...
Life without a remote
If you ditch the remote, prepare to be frustrated. Further, has anyone found a consistent performance superiority with all non-remote preamps or integrateds? i.e. every amplification scheme without a remote has consistently performed better than a...
Do I need a power cable - if so what brand?
Gunbei, great to have your sense of humor here again. Welcome back. And when the bill arrives for the box that showed up, that's "Audio's Greatest Secrets Revealed"!
Good entry level cd?
Ok, seriously, I have an old NAD player which is pretty good for a couple hundred bucks. There's a couple on sale now for under $300.
Good entry level cd?
Stereophile did an article on the original Playstation, but that's deemed Class C, so it's pretty high end. You might want to try out a Fisher Price cdp, and run it to a DAC. A good start. ;)
Does the Transport make a significant difference?
Usarmyvet91, thank you very much for the vote of confidence in my reviewing. However...you may want to thank Doug SCHNEIDER, because he was the one who helped you, not me. I really would have if I had known. Now, if you read my reviews of the Emin...
Does the Transport make a significant difference?
Kijanki, he said, "If the DAC is excellent at jitter rejection then it won't make a difference (one jitter immune input versus another should sound the same as it is all just bits)." Seems to me the conclusion he reached is: the transport doesn't ...
Does the Transport make a significant difference?
Shadorne, you are wrong in regards to your Jitter reduction theory, If the DAC is excellent at jitter rejection then it won't make a difference (one jitter immune input versus another should sound the same as it is all just bits). " I addressed th...
Filling the void for better sound
Blindjim, may I suggest wearing wool while engraving your name, address, phone number, SS#, bank account, passwords, etc. (for security reasons, of course) on the newly filled stands with a Dremel tool? That makes them a physical record in case yo...
