Phono cartridge for classic rock
Tom,To emphasize oomph at the expense of nuance and detail, try scooting VTF up by a hair. As you know, the UNIii is profoundly responsive to tiny VTF adjustments. If you're like me you optimize it daily (sometimes more often) to optimize its stre...
Loricraft PRC3 could use some help
My PRC3 arm is set with downforce at zero (ie, with the vacuum turned off, the arm floats level). There's no need for any downforce. The vacuum alone is sufficient to keep the nozzle riding lightly on the record and sucking cleanly. Additional dow...
cartiage for Kenwood L07D genuine tone arm
Jagdzaku,Even if your phono preamp has a LF filter, an arm/cartridge combo with a native resonance of ~5-6Hz is asking for trouble. At a minimum, it would impair clean tracking and overexercise the suspension in the cartridge, possibly shortening ...
Woofer pumping WHY??
LOL. Now this thread's getting some traction!
Help with Turntable/arm/cart decision
Well, we certainly can't quit posting now. If we can't have logic, at least we can have fun!
Woofer pumping WHY??
The dead horse kicks, but doesn't even aim one at me?Now that's painful.
MM cartridges
+1 to Dover's post. Of the cartridges you listed, the Aida or Grado Ref would be reasonable choices. I'd choose the Aida because I'm not fond of Grado's schmoozy warmth, but that's a matter of personal taste.Decca London should not be on your list...
Woofer pumping WHY??
Lew, there doesn't appear to be much interest in logic here. ;-)Matt posted earlier that his woofer pumping:1. occurs with his new rig but not his old one. This earmarks the new rig as specifically involved with the problem.2. occurs on all records...
looking at upgrading my tonearm from a triplanar
Tom,Thanks for your report and glad you're enjoying! Your finding echoes my experience and that of nearly all who've compared these two arms.At these levels, I believe the differences of tonearms is not better/best, but just different. Boston's Sy...
Flux Busters
Just the Cardas record demagnetization sweeps for me. Sonically efficacious and no risk of damage to any cartridge.
Help with Turntable/arm/cart decision
Matt,As I posted on your Woofer Pumping thread ten days ago, it's obvious from the symptoms that tonearm/cartridge compliance is not the cause. Your test confirmed this.Have you performed the diagnostics I suggested on 7/21? This problem is unlike...
Woofer pumping WHY??
Good followup suggestion from Jperry. I would try his simple diagnostic and my suggestions before schlepping a hunk of granite, which seems unlikely to alter the behavior last described. Do whatever you like of course.
Woofer pumping WHY??
When I play any vinyl it goes 4 very quick beats then nothing then 4 very quick beats and so on... it even speeds up when I play 45'sGood observations, which lead one to suspect an irregularity in the new TT's drive or bearing system. As a cheap e...
Carbon Fiber Brush with Milty Gun?
I put the back of my hand up to the LP before using the brush. If the hairs on my hand stand up, I spray the gun before brushing, then again after. Maybe you should shoot your hand!
looking at upgrading my tonearm from a triplanar
The bearing ideally should not have to transfer any mechanical energy. If it does, this means that the arm and cartridge are mismatched (effective mass is incorrect). Strongly disagree. The effective mass/compliance relationship tells us only how ...
