VPI classic 3.0 Signature anti-skate.
I heard before that generally speaking you want max tracking force allowed and minimum bias to get the best sound.Max tracking force has never been my recommendation (unless you're a vinyl newbie - and I know you're not, Inna). Newbies are well ad...
VPI classic 3.0 Signature anti-skate.
LISTEN and use your judgment WITH the proper ant-skate applied for album playback (not aggressive test records!) and then decide. I did.... many years ago. With my best cartridge (listed) on my best tonearm (ditto), zero A/S produces the best soni...
VTA for a Dynavector 20X2L
The OP requested an optimal starting point for VTA. M18764ag's response was spot-on and I (who adjust VTA/SRA for every LP that I play) second it wholeheartedly. Wise guidance adapts to the situation and needs of the audience.Cleeds' response was ...
Turntables
Excellent guidance in the above posts. Cartridge sonics are a matter of personal taste. Since we know nothing of yours, it would have been presumptuous for anyone to jump in with, "Buy a ____, best cartridge ever!". Glad to see nobody went down th...
VPI Avenger
Stringreen, you mentioned Bearpaws. There are many choices but these are the most expensive, so presumably best beneath higher end models?
Wacky Question about cartridges
Alpha Genesis cartridges were originally developed by Nakatsuka-san, before he founded ZYX. The current ZYX lineup should provide equivalent or better (mostly better) performance. Same designer. All models still made by hand, either by Nakatsuka-s...
Phono section of Doshi Alaap 2.1 - how good-
I own a full-function Alaap and have A/B'd vs. the separates (in both my own system and in two of Nick Doshi's home systems). The Alaap is renowned for its effortless speed and great dynamic range (among other attributes). The separates provide eve...
Koetsu Stone Body vs Urushi/RSP
The Shelter 901 is not smooth like a Koetsu.
tonearms with VTA-towers for true "VTAF"

Koetsu Stone Body vs Urushi/RSP
The wood bodies I've heard (Black, Urushi, RS, RSP) all smoothed the sound more than the stone bodies I've heard (Jade Platinum, Onyx Platinum). If that's an effect you enjoy, I'd stick with a wood body.I've never heard another cartridge smooth th...
tonearms with VTA-towers for true "VTAF"
Dover, sorry for misreading your post. Fully agree.
tonearms with VTA-towers for true "VTAF"
Dover's geometry is *almost* correct. The longest p-to-s distance occurs when the armtube is level. Any change (+ or -) away from that shortens the p-to-s distance. Like Dover, I'm also unaware of any tonearm besides the ET2 that self-corrects for...
Experiences buying used cartridges
Tried it only once. Bought a $2,000 LOMC used for $800. Advertised as < 50 hours, but it arrived with a seriously off-center cantilever. It seemed to me then and now that it would have taken much longer than 50 hours to do that.Others have been...
How to use Feickert Protractor on SME V Tonearm
Larryi,Fully agree with your latest, provided that SME owners pay heed to Albert's initial post. Use of a Mint (or any arc) protractor with an SME V requires that the user provide Yip with their cartridge's cantilever length (i.e., the hypotenuse ...
Phono cartridge for classic rock
>> I am tracking at 1.7 gmMeaningless data, since every cartridge is unique (especially cartridges that resolve at the level of the UNIii).>> I recall you mentioning your cartridge relaxed some DougYes. I adjust VTF virtually every ses...
