recommendation for a high end analog system
@ianderson,The Maplenoll was very quiet, smooth, excellent bass, and most everything sounded beautiful on it.  After reading my post again, my comments on the OL Illustrious II had to do mostly with arms I've had since the 'Noll.  The OL Illustrio...
recommendation for a high end analog system
Origin Live Illustrious II or higher would give you the more live sound with plenty of detail. After owning several different arms, I was able to find a used OLI II for under $900. It is a simple to setup arm and I’ve owned a couple different OL S...
TRL DUDE preamp
Hey Brian,I traveled down to Bill’s (grannyring) house in Tennessee with a good friend to hear a pair of speakers he’d modded and to let him see the internals of my DUDE and see if there was anything he could do to improve on it as he did to the o...

I have Nuforce Reference 9 V3 SE mono amps w/ TDSS level 3 upgrades.  The Ref 9's I bought used for $1400 for the pair about 5 years ago.  Liked them so much I had TDSS do it's upgrades which made very good amps a into super amps and more stable. ...

Janis Ian songs on her earlier albums are very well recorded and the music is very nice.  Rickie Lee Jones' first album titled the same is just fantastic sounding and musically.Bob
Still Need Help
I have a very heavy TT--Lenco w/ Pete Riggle Woody arm.  I get no howling or feedback when playing records.  The TT weighs about 115 lbs. and sits on a Star Sound Sistrum rack's points.  There are 2 other components that are on shelves on that rac...
What kind of listening chair
I'll second MC's post.  Headrest should be lower than your ears, otherwise, go for support and comfort--fabric would be better than leather or vinyl for less sound rebound.  Bob
What did your system look like 30 years ago?
mapman,Philips GA-212.  Had one in a pretty bad system--that was my best piece.Bob

Pure tube phono preamp
Aural Thrills Audio ’The Beast’ has only tubes used and is similar in design to the TRL DUDE preamp in build--huge chassis, huge power supply, 9 tubes used vs. 5 in the DUDE. Will quietly do LOMC down to .4 mv. He built this unit using the best so...
Recommendation for a replacement speaker cable
Under $600, you should at least try Speltz Anticables in your system.  They were the cable that beat all others tried in my system until I hit on a couple that were new like Cerious Graphene Extreme $640 that you can get well under $400 used and A...
