Stylus Rake Angle
Whatever your starting point, level or 92 degrees, the actual SRA arm height range is very, very small! Adjust "on the fly" is worthless, because you will pass over this very narrow peak with a quick adjustment. You must "zero in" over time, to fi...
New VPI 3D Arm
A D+ in ease of adjustability says it all!I gave up on the "dropped" counterweight of the VPI 10.5, and all successive VPI arms. A royal PITA to fine tune, VTF, or azimuth independently, and no sonic improvement over the round counterweight of the...
New VPI 3D Arm
Because you said your VPI 10.5i has sss with sh,sh or spitting, indicating the arm is NOT setup properly. That should not happen with the top Benz properly mounted on the 10.5i arm!Your comparison is VOID, and it is you, that is dumb!
New VPI 3D Arm
A half-backed product, wait at least a year before purchasing!Stringreen, are you, just now, learning how to properly setup a VPI arm???
Audio Research SP-10 owner manual
Find someone that has an original manual. All ARC products shipped before the late 90's had circuit diagrams and a parts list in every manual.I have seen the schematics for the SP10 and other ARC products on the web. Do a deep google search down m...
Heads Up: ARC is introducing the new SP-20 in Fall
@BifwynneThere are many fine LOMC cartridges lower than .5mV, (to many to name) that you can not use!Why limit yourself?FYI the old ARC SP9's, SP10, SP11,and SP14 all could handle cartridges down to .2mV.
Vacuuming every time? LAST revisited?
How much toilet paper do you use each time?
Heads Up: ARC is introducing the new SP-20 in Fall
It will not handle low output MC cartridges, only medium output. If you want to use truely low output MC catridges the only ARC product is the reference phono stage. ARC can not make low noise phono stages. If they were any good at design they coul...
Soundstage vs background noise?
Background noise has nothing to do with sound staging. Noticeable noise, from the listening spot, during very low levels obscures the details. This noise is mostly quiet hiss. If the ambient noise in room is not very low, system noise may not matt...
Sony XA5400ES vs Rega Saturn:Which sounds better??
The Sony 5400 playback on SACD or Red book CD is very, very good. All Rega audio gear is "run of the mill" British MidFi!
What power conditioner will help in my situation?
Just shut off the fan when listening to your stereo!I turn off the AC or heat, due to fan noise and circulating air, when I listen.
Do I need a center channel?
Absolutely not! Stereo playback of home theater beats phony 5.1 surround sound every time. Why should all the dialog be in the center??? 5.1 is also crap in most spots in a theater, why bring that home!
Computer audio, I am not convinced yet ......
Try SACD on your Sony 5400 if you want HIgh Res audio. The 5400 is up to date CD/SACD playback, and IMO beats every digital file (computer based) playback with 24/96K or higher files that I have listened to. The USB port technology is the problem ...

@Slaw If you bought a used VPI and the previous owner screwed with the platter screws you are SOL! Better to buy new.
