Recommend a budget floor standing speaker less than $1,000 A used Magnepan IIIa. Hard to find. May not mate with most rooms.
My Audio Research experience I had a similar experience with an ARC D125 in the 90's. An output tube shorted and the amp went up in flames. The main bias board was burned up. Took it in to the dealer, and the unit was sent to the home factory which was in town. They had one...
Others experience re: subs and Magmepan 20 Small sound wave launch of an sub will not mate well with the six foot tall wave launch of the 20.Image and sound field in the low bass will be screwed up!Be satisfied with quality sound down to 25Hz.The bragging rites of screwed up sound down to ...
Why Single-Ended? I have always wondered why "almost nobody" buys (or even tries) inexpensive "pro" balanced cables, on the "true fully balanced" audio equipment, such as Pass Labs and ARC. They sound the same as the expensive ones IMO!This topic has been "put to b...
VPI paper alignment jig A paper alignment jig is worthless! The "new" VPI is super cheap IMO.VPI has always "in the past" provided a plastic or metal jig.I have used both the VPI, and others, including the "MINT", and always preferred the sound using the VPI! YMMV!
High End Amp Price Collapse musings Class D vs Class A/AB is like ground beef vs prime rib!
Tonearm cable recommendations Cardas makes good ones.
Should I upgrade to XLR interconnects? YES! There is a big benefit - solid connection - lower noise - better sound quality. They need not be expensive - get pro XLR cables - they are as good as audiophile cables IMO.http://www.markertek.com/product/sc100xxj/canare-star-quad-microphone-...
Why are low impedance speakers harder to drive than high impedance speakers It is not a matter of "harder to drive" but of a "proper amplifier" to match the lower impedance.Amplifiers have different "abilities" that need to be "matched" with any given speaker.Amplifier match is, subjective, and, YMMV, like everything else...
Do you clean your records before play, after play, or once (and then never again)? I play new records a few times to "de-bur" the newly pressed groove before using the RCM.Many older audiophile record covers noted to "de-bur", by playing a few times, resulting in improved sonics.
Guide for understanding wire gauge and resistance "8 ohm speaker will have, most likely, resistance of 6 ohm."TOTAL NONESENSE!The typical 8 ohm speaker has a "roller coaster", of varying, impedance (resistance, capacitance, inductance), across the audible audio frequency spectrum.
Evaluating a system - what do you listen for? This is what I do not want:Exaggerated high frequencies and etched sound = "detail", biting unnatural attacks = "fast transient response", unnaturally dry bass = "taut" and “tight”This is what I want:An emotionally accurate feeling of live, natura...

Analog output for hifi After reading that a DAC is the way to go, I bought a Schiit multibit bifrost for my Sony TV. Could not be more pleased after a 2 day break in. The opinions are correct, this is a great DAC.The DAC was $600 direct from Schiit.Set the Sony to PCM ... |
