Update from EMM XDS1 to XDS1 V2 I am in the same boat - Brian. It's a 25 grand SACD player that gets zero updates for almost 2 years now.I have an older Synology NAS that cost less than 1/25th of that - and superseded by 4 new models that I still get firmware updates for that im...
Computer Audio iTunes doesn't provide an error log but if you have no issues, the rips should be bit perfect as long as you rip to you use Apple Lossless, WAV or AIFF. And iTunes sounds very good with a plug in like Audirvana Plus/Amarra/PureMusic.
Computer Audio I think you can install the Sony software and point it to the iTunes library - it would then transfer the files to the Sony player itself.
Start over--HiFi rig ---clean slate The format:1) I second the Thiel CS3.7s but if you live in Australia, I'd also look at the Lenehan Audio ML2 Limited speakers.2) I'd go for the Thiel SmartSub 2.2s (twin) with the S1 integrator or the PX passive version2) PrimaLuna Dialogue Premiu...
My PC Audio Question Journey The thing is that there is still inherent jitter in the devices, especially if you use a SPDIF connection again from the Sonos/Touch to a better quality DAC. I can see the appeal of devices like the Sony HAP Z1ES, the Lumin network player and the ...
My PC Audio Question Journey Interesting. Was not aware that they used Apple Lossless. Still the original file format isn't really relevant - they could even be MP3 as I said.I still prefer to keep everything as AIFF in my library.
My PC Audio Question Journey The file format is irrelevant to Airport Express or AppleTV - as long as iTunes can read it. It streams it as a PCM stream across wifi. It could even be MP3 (shudder) which gets converted to PCM on the fly for transmission.
My PC Audio Question Journey Use XLD on the Mac. It provides a log of the rip and compares it to an online database (AccurateRip). It also has a paranoid mode that reads/rereads/rechecks the data multiple times - a sure fire way to kill your optical drive :) but it's for the ...
"Holographic" presentation I was comparing two different speakers - and there was a noticeable improvement in soundstage depth and width in one vs the other. A speaker designer I know says there's a simple explanation for that - our perception of soundstage is determined by...
Asynchronous USB DAC and USB cable quality There was this aspect of testing that always bugged me.I have tested components and cables in most dealers' setups where there were always noticeable improvements/changes when we swapped some things out. But at home, the differences were always mu...
Macbook w/ Audirvana vs. CD playback Audirvana Plus is a pretty decent package. Enabling Integer and Direct/Exclusive mode would improve things significantly if you haven't already done it (assuming Integer is supported by the USB interface on the DAC/converter).A+ also includes a Sy...
Help on Optimizing Dedicated PC as Music Server First impressions of the Celeron NUC + HD Plex Linear PSU is that it improves the sound a fair bit. I am testing it in one of the demo rooms we have at work now - it's not fully treated so I've found comparisons are usually harder to do in that ro...
Help on Optimizing Dedicated PC as Music Server Here's something I am working on. An Intel Celeron NUC with 8GB of RAM and 120GB SSD.An HD-Plex Linear Power Supply I'll see if there's enough juice to run my usual DSD2x up sampling. I suspect it might. My old Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz Mini ran that fine...
pc computer used under $500.00 for music only The one that seems the most promising and you can squeeze it in new.An Intel NUC with Celeron processor. At about 6W, it outperforms the Atom based designs but still runs extremely cool. Add in 4GB of DDR3 1.35V memory and a 60GB of SSD.Download D...
Meitner/EMM Labs Firmware Upgrade = Sonic Bliss *sigh* no love for the XDS1 which is still a DAC - just apparently not current enough :( |
