Naim Recapping
"Except a new one costs >$5000". Exactly. And for what? A great amp that will drive any British two-way in a moderate size room. Hey, I was a fan when the folks at Naim made sense.
Naim Recapping
That once you've joined the cult you won't ask questions like these and instead will pay up like the rest of the zombies? Really, $750 to "recap" a 10 year old NAP 250? At that rate I may as well buy a new one......OHHHHHH, I get it!
Speakers for NAIM amp/preamp
I'd look at the Harbeth HL5 Super. They sound great with anything but are regularly paired with Naim electronics, offering a warm and musical sound to complement the Naim gear. I haven't heard the Avalon but after extensive audition I liked the Ha...
Waltz for Debby-Bill Evans Trio
Thanks, folks. I picked up a few new ideas for gifties--to me! I second the Acoustic Sounds "Greatest 100 Jazz Titles" 45rpm series--I wish I had the money to buy them all. Also, the Miles Davis Prestige Years Box Set is fantastic--got that one as...
MAPLESHADE RECORDINGS
I agree with Jsujo. Good sound but left me flat and I sold them.
"Absolute best" used speaker for $8-10K
Not one of my personal favorites but given your stated preferences I would suggest the Theil CS6
Where can I find speaker feet?
Also try Audiopoints from Star Sound Technologies. I have a pair of nice brass feet (similar to Audiopoints) that have a 3/16 thread that I'm selling if you are interested in those. Email me for photos.
Daedalus DA-1: How Good Are They?
It figures after boasting that I've heard nearly everything under the sun below $15K Aktchi asks about two that I haven't--the Zu and the Tyler. I guess to try and be more specific here is what I did hear in my two year search (at least what I rem...
Daedalus DA-1: How Good Are They?
I'm gonna spend most of my air responding to Aktchi and let Lou handle the wood--except to say that mine are solid oak with, I believe, Baltic Birch and solid Walnut baffles and Baltic Birch rear panels. Lou, did I get that right? Now, as to compar...
Daedalus DA-1: How Good Are They?
Sorry, Lou. My poor attempt at being cynical and funny. I didn't mean to lead people astray.
Daedalus DA-1: How Good Are They?
You know, I am getting so sick and tired of audio manufacturers that make absurdly dishonest claims about their products. Voodoo incantations that improve bass response? The next thing I expect to hear is placement of a clock radio in your listeni...
Naim amps??
At the risk of offending the Naim camp (are there still any campers out there?) as a former Naim owner and enthusiast (62/Hicap/140) I think the brand has lost it's way. When I was auditioning electronics after my gear was reaching the end of it's...
Is my ceiling too low?
Sure, the higher ceiling would be better but the Harbeth's are not very room sensitive and you will get some really great sound pairing them with the Naim stuff--provided it is the NAP200 or better. Enjoy!
Daedalus DA-1: How Good Are They?
Lou--when you have time could you elaborate on the aperiodic vent? If someone put a gun to my head and made me say which of the many virtues of the DA-1's do I feel is most impressive I would have to say the bass response. I'm really curious how y...
TRELJA almost In New York, 2006
Thanks for the write up Joe. I, too, was there and concur that the rooms, like most of these "hifi hotel" sitatuations, did not do the systems any favors. That said I really wasn't very impressed with what I heard throughout the day. The only room...
