Phono Pre Upgrade
I really like the Herron VTPH-2 which new is below your price point. I can't say I've compared it to a lot of different units out there or ones that are considerably more expensive but I cannot recommend the Herron highly enough based on what it d...
Vandersteen 5As...first impressions
Among the top three "reasonably priced" loudspeakers I have had the pleasure of hearing. Enjoy!
Is my room big enough for the Harbeth HL5's?
By my reading nobody has said that the OP's room is too small for either speaker.
Is my room big enough for the Harbeth HL5's?
You may want to post over on the Harbeth forum. Many users there and plenty with smaller rooms as they are largely from Europe or Asia.
Is my room big enough for the Harbeth HL5's?
A parallel thread is running here:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?cspkr&1303719698I think the thing you have to consider with the Harbeth's is that they are quite forgiving of room size, ancillary equipment and placement. HOWEVER, they...
Is my room big enough for the Harbeth HL5's?
As a former Compact 7 owner who has used those speakers in two different listening rooms (which were slightly smaller and significantly larger than yours) and heard the HL5's in several settings my advice would be to invest your funds in upgrades ...
Good turntable needed, need recomendations.
I agree that you really need to consider a table, arm, cartridge and phonostage as a record playback SYSTEM and therefore should set your budget at a figure that will allow you to work with a reputable dealer to put together the whole package. (Yo...
Whest P.30R, P.30RDT and P.30RDT SE
I think it is primarily better quality parts and better matching of component values but I'll let others with more experience provide details. The price differential you cite, however, is exactly what caused me to look elsewhere. I just had a hard...
Don't you love it when this happens?
The title track on the Lyle LP is fantastic. Very immediate sound with a vivid set of lyrics sung brilliantly. The whole album is just great. Enjoy!
Whest P.30R, P.30RDT and P.30RDT SE
The Whest was my first foray into a stand alone phonostage. I previously used integrated amps or preamps with built in phonostages (like the ARC SP-16). So, I cannot say that I have had wide experience in this area beyond the Whest and the Herron....
Whest P.30R, P.30RDT and P.30RDT SE
Do a search as there are several threads here comparing these models. I owned a PS.30R at one point but decided to go with a tubed unit (Herron VTPH-2) after hearing what a very good, low noise tube phonostage could do in my system.
VPI Scoutmaster and Target Wall Shelf
Congrats Arnold. I think you will be pleased with the larger shelf. You may want to keep your eyes out for a Symposium Svelt Shelf sized to fit as a replacement for your MDF shelf. The Scoutmaster stock feet present the metal to metal contact poin...
VPI Scoutmaster and Target Wall Shelf
Be careful, my Scout just fits comfortably on the oversized PS-1. You need room for the motor to extend beyond the side of the turntable plus it is nice to have a little extra space for stylus cleaning fluid, record brush, etc. If you add an SDS l...
VPI Scoutmaster and Target Wall Shelf
I'm using the larger Target shelf (I believe Model PS-1) with a Scout which I believe is the same dimensions as the Scoutmaster. Fits perfectly. I've also replaced the MDF board in the Target shelf with a Symposium Svelt Shelf of which a limited n...
Audience Au-24 vs. Empirical Design Cable Review
Let me add that in working with Karl to find the right power cables for my system I expressed a preference for a high performance cable that was thinner and more flexible than the ED-416 since I had some tight corners to negotiate behind my rack. ...
