Great guys to deal with in the audio industry
Another shout out for Lou Hinkley of Daedalus Audio. I'd also add Keith Herron, Karl Schuster (Empirical Design) and Dan Wright to the list. These guys are world class human beings who happen to make great audio equipment. They have spent countles...
Last Preamp? Could The Search Finally Be Over?
I should clarify that Keith provided me a generous trial period with the unit but he does not have a formal 30 day policy. I only needed time enough to let it settle in (3 or 4 long listening sessions) and then as many more to do some serious list...

Review: Herron VTSP-3A R02 Linestage
Yeah, I tried to figure out how to post it in the reviews category but couldn't figure out how with the new A'gon system--one more reason I'm not a fan. Czbbcl: I haven't tried Keith's mono amps but really feel that I have some very good system sy...

My comments on the VTSP-3A(R02) are now up. You can see it here:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1360710778&openmine&zzDodgealum&4&5#DodgealumSorry--not sure how to do a link.....
PreAmp recomendation please...
OK guys I've lived with the Herron for several weeks now and it is a keeper. I've posted a pretty lengthy "review" which is now waiting for moderator approval so I can't link it here but the title is "Last Preamp. Could the Search be Over" or some...
$5000.00 To Spend Looking for Tube Pre-Amp
I would suggest you give the new Herron VTSP-3A(R02) a look. I've owned four preamps in as many years (Audio Research and Modwright) and the Herron is by a wide margin the most musically satisfying of the lot. It is incredibly well designed and ex...
PreAmp recomendation please...
My initial reaction is very favorable. I've only got about three serious listening sessions and 15-20 hours on it so need some more break in and listening time before I can comment with confidence and in detail. Give me a week or so and I'll pop b...
The Demise of the Hi-End Audio Store
Buconero117--I've been to the second floor and, sadly, it is as bad as you say. But I have had much better experiences at the other NJ high end dealers. Some will let you take the gear home over the weekend for an audition in your system, which ta...

My LS100 was the latest version. I had a variety of reasons for moving on but would say in retrospect that I enjoyed my time with LS100. It is a very nice sounding preamp and Dan is a top notch designer and human being. I'll have more to say once ...
Next step suggestions, from Spendor SP100r ?
I know Lou sold a pair in the UK. Have you contacted him?
High Sensitivity Speakers that work best with SS
I wonder whether this is why Lou likes the Modwright KWA150Se with his speakers--it delivers the first few watts in Class A before switching over to Class A/B operation. Given the load presented I wonder if the KWA ever leaves Class A when paired ...
Next step suggestions, from Spendor SP100r ?
I had a pair of S-100s many years ago--they were one of my all time favorites. When I wanted to get back to that sound I went with Harbeth (C-7's) which were a bit more detailed through the mids with (obviously) less bass (but I was in a smaller s...
PreAmp recomendation please...
Until recently I owned the LS100 and am taking delivery on Keith's latest VTSP-3A (RO2) this week so should have something to say in a few weeks about the differences between those units. I'll post something in case you haven't already made your d...
Carts on JMW 9 Signature
Best thing I've used so far is the AT 0C9MLII. The Dyna 20X series works well but for the money the AT is hard to beat. Be careful with the Soundsmith--you need a medium to high compliance cartridge with the JMW9 and the Zypher is a low compliance...
