PreAmp recomendation please...
My LS100 was the latest version. I had a variety of reasons for moving on but would say in retrospect that I enjoyed my time with LS100. It is a very nice sounding preamp and Dan is a top notch designer and human being. I'll have more to say once ...
Next step suggestions, from Spendor SP100r ?
I know Lou sold a pair in the UK. Have you contacted him?
High Sensitivity Speakers that work best with SS
I wonder whether this is why Lou likes the Modwright KWA150Se with his speakers--it delivers the first few watts in Class A before switching over to Class A/B operation. Given the load presented I wonder if the KWA ever leaves Class A when paired ...
Next step suggestions, from Spendor SP100r ?
I had a pair of S-100s many years ago--they were one of my all time favorites. When I wanted to get back to that sound I went with Harbeth (C-7's) which were a bit more detailed through the mids with (obviously) less bass (but I was in a smaller s...
PreAmp recomendation please...
Until recently I owned the LS100 and am taking delivery on Keith's latest VTSP-3A (RO2) this week so should have something to say in a few weeks about the differences between those units. I'll post something in case you haven't already made your d...
Carts on JMW 9 Signature
Best thing I've used so far is the AT 0C9MLII. The Dyna 20X series works well but for the money the AT is hard to beat. Be careful with the Soundsmith--you need a medium to high compliance cartridge with the JMW9 and the Zypher is a low compliance...
Listening Room Art Work
For my 50th my wife and friends had three of the Francis Wolff photo prints offered by Acoustic Sounds (Miles, Coltrane and Blakey) nicely framed for our listening room. Probably bad for sonics but they create a nice vibe.
Magico VS Daedalus VS Marten VS Spendor
As you probably know, choosing speakers is the most important of all in putting together a satisfying system. It is also a highly personal one since we all hear differently and have unique preferences when it comes to great sound. You also have a ...
Anyone try Triode wire labs or Empirical Design
Can't comment on the others but I'm using Empirical Design PC's and IC's throughout my system. I've compared them to several others along the way and found them to be hands down the best value for money. Karl is a joy to deal with as well.
Is Nagra BPS The Best Small Phono Pre?
Somewhat small and awesome sounding is the Herron VTPH-2.
Best Audio Store in Washington D C ?
Anyone remember Excaliber?
Modwright LS100 VS Modwright LS36.5
I've owned both and prefer the LS100 which in my system produced deeper bass and more body. The LS36.5 is a tad quieter but leaner throughout. Both are excellent (outperforming my ARC LS26 easily)and your decision is really one of system matching....
12' x 14' room; $10k budget for speakers; help
I think you should take a very close look at the Daedalus Athena. It meets all your performance parameters and can be placed fairly close to the rear wall due to an aperiodic venting system. These are hand made speakers built from solid hardwood--...
Folkies, do you know Lori McKenna?
She's great. Very dark lyrically but an interesting voice and singing style. I saw her at Mexicali Blues in Teaneck NJ with Mary Gautier (sp?). About 50 people in the room with a good sound system. Just the two gals with their guitars trading song...
Turntable Upgrade Suggestions
Mordante makes a good point--the phono preamp is vital. As is synergy between the arm and cartridge and proper cartridge alignment. I believe that a sound investment of time and money in getting these right is the proper starting point for good an...
