AZ Matrix Ref Mk II vs. Mk I?
Thanks guys!
Looking for new genres...
Thanks guys, great recommendations. I'm quite familiar with World music, especially with its Celtic stream, didn't listed it assuming it's a subclass of Folk. I guess I'm looking for kind of 'upgraded' world music, something like Peter Gabriel's '...
AZ Matrix Ref Mk II vs. Mk I?
Hmm... I guess the cables are too exotic...;)
Redbook layer on SACD - good enough?
Lafish: I've got SACDP some time before, and then discovered that mastering quality on available SACDs isn't as good as on good CDs (IMO), so I decided to get a good CDP instead. When SACD will be mastering with XRCD quality -then it won.Kr4: is i...
Its all in the DAC?
Murphthelab, it's interesting what you're saying, could you give some more detailed explanation? Especially what happening when you have an external DAC, which usually doesn't have a dedicated clock sync. line from a transport.
What seperates "hi-fi" from "mid-fi" in cdp's?
Straight listening helps, IMHO, only if one has an experience in that - one should know what to listen to, and what nuances to pay attention on... I don't think there are characteristics that would clearly distinguish mid-fi from hi-fi... Too many...
Sensitive Monitors
Yep, Jrd351 just said what I was going to. If you like Revel's sound (I really do) you may have a hard time to find an alternative - Revels are unique with their sound.
I'm so confused....
What's funny about HDCD is that Simaudio has an official upgrade for its Moon Eclipse CD player that REMOVES Pacific Microsonics digital filter (i.e. HDCD circuitry). They succeeded to build a CD player that sounds better without HDCD then when it...
IC for Moon/Revel
CableCompany advised Wireworld Eclipse III+... What other cable could be considered as similar - just to understand its character?
Good cd player and a great DAC or great cd player?
Agree with Ritteri. While I do believe that all links in the chain are equally important, I desided to build my system around speakers. Why? Speakers set the final limitations on your system: even "cheap" CD player usually can do certain kinds of ...
Good cd player and a great DAC or great cd player?
Agree with Bwyoung. I'm not also sure whether just a straight listening would help. In order to evaluate a real difference between two very good components one should know what details to pay attention on, and it's not obvious when go from $1K to ...
Hard Disk Playback Systems
Good point, and I mentioned this option is one of the previous replies. USB 2.0/firewire OR ETHERNET outboard sound card would act as SPDIF interface, which means to take, let's say, WAV data stream, encode it to SPDIF format, and transmit it to a...
Isolation/coupling: basics?
Sometime before I made quite a lot of searches in internet about DAE issues. My observations show that even the most modern CD players/drives have a lot to do with data reading errors, and it very varies from drive to drive. And that normally CD p...
Hard Disk Playback Systems
Onhwy61, it's just my well forgotten electrical engeneering education - I moved to a computer programming right away, but it still sits somewhere on a background... :) CD player doesn't have fans, megahertz buses, usually has well isolated power s...
Hard Disk Playback Systems
AFAIK RF noise from computer may easely affect SPDIF signal causing timing error (which, actually, is jitter). So signal does get through, but with transmittion errors. External word clock link would mainly resolve this problem, but it indeed very...
