Best Bang for your Buck DAC ?
Borrowed my friends Orchid that he raves about a while back. Sound varied between "I like it", and "this sounds like an MP3". I can see the attraction, but I was too often aware of something "wrong". Would have drove me crazy.
Surge protectors and power conditioners - Good idea or bad?
I have better things to do :-)   Whole home surge protector. I have fiber to the house now so data lines are not an issue now, but previously I did use a fiberoptic connection to isolate. Surge protectors at the equipment as well for added protect...
Speakers The single most critical component
All others will have to play catch-up, but its doubtful Seas and Scan Speak will be around much longer. You were doing so well, then the deep end you fell off of.Much work has been done in the last 30 years to reduce impact of thermal compression ...
Best Bang for your Buck DAC ?
$300 buys a lot of parts, and the packaging costs are minimal.
The Absurdity of it All
I have a hobby. Audio. Yours appears to be darts. Blindfolded.
WHAT IS THE MOST UNIQUE SONG THAT YOU HAVE EVER HEARD?
A Day in the Life2112+1 on Calling Occupants (Klaatu version)
Speakers The single most critical component
Can't agree with that pesky, as what ultimately comes out the end is a combination of additive error and multiplicative error. The additive error of speakers far outweighs the additive error of the source multiplied by everything that happens afte...
The Absurdity of it All
@Prof said it correctly, it is quite amazing that you see label everyone else as dogmatic or this or that or "tiring", and yet you don't look at yourselves with any introspective.
The Absurdity of it All
Why, oh why, is there so much projection done on the part of the flat earth naysayers? (i.e. ones who reject basic science). They are the ones with their panties in a bunch, not the hobbyists (you mean the ones that fight tooth and nail at every o...
What do we hear when we change the direction of a wire?
I also don't understand why these folks think that the biases they suffer are endemic to the human raceBecause they are. You may not understand this, but that does not make it any less true. Application specific knowledge reduces bias. The people ...
What do we hear when we change the direction of a wire?
That’s how I know blind tests have their place and their limitations.Okay, what are their limitations and how did you come to this conclusion?
What do we hear when we change the direction of a wire?
Your "simple test" is too simple and what you describe are not controlled conditions. For example, your test isn't double-blind and doesn't allow for quick switching, requirements that experts in the field (Johnson, Toole) insist are necessary. Th...
My NAD 3020 D proves your Class D tropes are wrong
It is quite possible there is a flaw in the ICEPower design where optimum operation requires a higher operating temperature. Many SS parts have significant performance change w.r.t. temperature.  I would say run them hard for 20-30 minutes after c...
Speakers The single most critical component
I think the op is arguing that it would be rare that your speakers would not be the weakest link.
What do we hear when we change the direction of a wire?
cleeds,Your post is insulting, dogmatic, and adds nothing to the discussion. It is nothing but a rant. Your constant insults to me and others with attempted insults like "measurementalist", "naysayer doctrine", etc. is tired, old, and useless. You...
