here's the next question. i decided to further tighten the transformer to the chassis and the hum has diminished significantly, but not completely. the question now is how tight can you make it? if i tighten it anymore, i am worried i may damage t...

thanks for the suggetions - today, i purchased a line conditioner which failed to alleviate the problem. it wil be returned asap.also, i did open the amp to check the transformer, but it seemed very securely fastened. i'll give it another look.it'... 
Try this simple DIY interconnect cable.
what connectors do you recommend? also, instead of putting the signal wire down the middle, what about wrapping the signal wire around the tube as well, spaced out so they don't touch? and is there any advantage to using teflon tape coated polyeth...

but what are the advantages to 24/96 if the material you are playing is recorded in 16/44? are standard cd's being recorded in 24/96 now? are dvd's? i don't see how upsampling can improve a recording...there's no additional sound to add, it's just... 
Full range sound from sub 1k speakers
give the acoustic energy aegis 3's a listen. you will be amazed - totally non-fatiguing, warm and detailed. very musical. $700 new, but is amazing value for the dollar. finding kestrels for less than $1000 will be very difficult, but a great value...

Musical subwoofer for under 1K
hsu tn1200 is wonderful...takes up little floor space, but as my wife likes to say, "it's the size of a small human." it's a passive sub and can be bought new for around $450. very hard to come by used, but a used high current solid state power am...
