DAC Measurements vs Actual Experience You give two different parameters. I look at measurements first if it sounds bad I don't buy it or keep it. The type of music I listen to has nothing to do with the components I buy. A DAC doesn't steer me to listen to certain kinds of music.
best-sounding class D amp? I know most don't care but here's some measurements on Rowland 535.https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/jeff-rowland-535-stereo-amplifier-review.1253...
best-sounding class D amp? The thread is about best sounding Class D. I was just pointing out the Benchmark wasn't didn't mean to come across as being a stickler or anything.
Why would I need Roon? It could be because I’ve assembled computers and installed OS’s that roon seems very simple to me. When I say roon sounds better to me than other player software it’s a purely subjective opinion, I’ve never done a blind listening test. I think the...
Why would I need Roon? If you simply want to try Roon install the core on a computer and it should find your Node2i as an endpoint. Keep the Node2i connected as is , install Roon app on your control device and play once a few simple steps are followed. You don't need to...
DAC Measurements vs Actual Experience Contrary to what this implies these two concepts are not mutually exclusive. You do you and carry on with measurement first mentality. I use my ears and keep the equipment that sounds good to me.
best-sounding class D amp? The Benchmark ABH2 isn't class D.
DAC Measurements vs Actual Experience I guess the ADSM is the Linn ? I looked on the ASR site and see the Linn and Benchmark are very close on their chart. I've heard the Benchmark but not the Linn and at the price I doubt I ever will. My guess is in a blind test I doubt I could tell ...
Why would I need Roon? I do send it to a raspberry pi4 running Ropiee as a bridge. I use ROCK on a NUC for the core running in my office. The difference is I can run ROCK headless 24/7 , it's optimized for music playback, self updates and I don't have to mess with wind...
Why would I need Roon? I’d try Audirvana if it would run on an minimalist OS designed specifically for music playback instead of windows or iOS. That could be why Roon sounds better to me.
DACs to look at? I noticed on a different thread you use a minidsp for room correction. I used one before getting the Anthem. I prefer ARC to Dirac but if there is a curve you like as you mentioned, after running ARC if you don't like what it does you can look at...
DACs to look at? I have the Anthem STR integrated it's not much less that $5K. The preamp STR is $4K. If movies and gaming is your priority you might look at the Anthem AVM 60 at $3K, it has a good DAC, ARC and is a streamer.
DAC Measurements vs Actual Experience I've never liked using volume in apps I set it to fixed and use the controls on the preamp or DAC or integrated depending on what I'm using. Obviously you can't do that with the DS.
DAC Measurements vs Actual Experience The Benchmark has excellent USB implementation I don't think using the Mac would affect it not sure about the other DAC. If you had a ground loop or mains hum it should be pretty apparent. Dirty power seems to be the most recent craze. Some might...
DACs to look at? OK at the low end the 2 I mentioned are good. The RME ADI 2 is around $1000 new is a good DAC. Topping D90 at about $700 is another. |
