variance of +/- 10 Hz with 1 kHz test tone
To set your mind at ease look at this thread in which various TT's were tested with the platter speed app, The best was the Nakamichi, which centres the record, most of the big variation is eccentric spindle hole.http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/in...
Channel Balance on Dynavector XV1-S
Moryoga, Azimuth is a mechanical alignment of the needle in the groove, and is probably best set mechanically (visually-microscope). The fosgometer measures a voltage, as a surrogate marker for alignment. There may be discrepancies in the phonosta...
Simaudio MOON LP5.3 RS or 300LP?
Moonguy, you might be right!! I have gone back to the 5.3RS, just more musical than the AudiaFlight, I can now hear clearly when the clarinet takes over from the flute in Rach 2. The AudiaFlight is just too screechy to pick the tonal differences! ...
Telarc 1812 revisited
The resurrection is complete 3 posts this month!!! I am curious about a post made by J Carr asking Rauliruegas to say what he heard when a cartridge was loaded down too much or too little. This was the answer I was most looking forward to, but sad...
Simaudio MOON LP5.3 RS or 300LP?
Well, I bought some 0.1% resistors and changed the loading to 400 Ohms on the AudiaFlight. I can now appreciate the unit, and at this stage I think it is faster, and has better resolution than the SimAudio. Now that the tone and the bass is sorted...
Dumb VTA Question
Apologies Peterayer, you are correct. I redid the calculations and 5.3mm change in base height on a 12 inch arm (304mm), changes the SRA by 1 degree. Sine theta = vertical change in height (opposite)/length of tone arm (hypotenuse). This adjustmen...
Dumb VTA Question
I might add my tuppence here. Firstly, Adjusting SRA/VTA makes a huge difference to tracking force on most arms. What you hear is the alteration in tracking force predominantly, unless you reset this after each adjustment....which defeats the purp...
Simaudio MOON LP5.3 RS or 300LP?
Sorry for the delay, have had the AudiaFlight in system for the last 2 months, including a couple of days continuous run in, using CD and an RIAA inverter. Should be properly run in. So today I put the 5.3RS/PSX 5.3 back in the system and.... much...
Audia flight protection mode
Now after 2 months audiophillia nervosa sets in:) What loading do you use with MC cartridges. There are "bizarre" loadings built into the Audia Flight. 6 between 0 and 100 Ohm, and then a huge gap to 900 Ohm. Currently I am running an Atlas at 100...
Audia flight protection mode
Well the new Audia Flight arrived today. Wow!! It's supposed to need several hundred hours run in. I can't imagine what can get better than this? I am now officially in audio Nirvana, the Ayre MXR and KXR are run in and the Audia flight is the Che...
DIY AC cable...which bulk cable?
Taboooe, Oyaide Tsunami, is just too stiff very awkward to bend and twist, I have used it exclusively until now but I've switched to Nanotech, also 10 gauge, not shielded, but good quality copper with gold and something else (nano) embedded. Termi...
Best Phono amp under $2000.
I am amazed at how good the Sim Audio lp 5.3rs, and I assume the lp310 are. Can definitely be had for under 2000. Quiet as, and detailed good tone top to bottom.
How much to spend on a decently good phono stage?
Abrew, If you look at the files from MFremer's phono shootout, it seems to me about 1000 to 2000 is the sort of price. The Lehman in that test was amazing, compared very favourably to the Ypsilon (with a better TT arm and cartridge), I also think ...
Audia flight protection mode
I was told it was a pin hole in the transformer case? Apparently damaged during transit? I would have thought the transformer was securely bolted to the chassis, shouldn't be loose objects travelling around in the case. Anyhow the dealer was great...
Simaudio MOON LP5.3 RS or 300LP?
"Bill", sorry missed your question, no I use Oyaide Tsunami from my "Hydra Killa" (home made "Hydra" distribution box. I have acquired a AudiaFlight phono stage, (should arrive in a few weeks) really "pressured" into it after I showed some interes...
