Joule Electra VZN100 Replace with what? I also have found Jud to be grumpy but once you call him on it, he's very responsive! The ARC Ref 75 is a wonderful amp and safe for kids! You should have an ARC dealer arrange a home demo for you.
Chinook vs AR PH5/6 If you analog isn't as good as your digital, there's definitely a problem. See what happens with the Chinook. Also make sure your table is level and on a proper surface. When I moved my turntable to a wall shelf the change was as significant as an...
Herron VTPH-1 vs Allnic H1201 Thanks for the suggestion, Chuck. I guess I'm not sure if I would get what I'm looking for from the VTPH-2. I should call Herron about that specifically.Vortrex, thanks for that comparison. That's very helpful.
LDR Active Preamp - does it exist? I've had both a battery and an AC version of the Lighter Note, which is based on George's design, at the same time. I found that the AC version is better but only if you keep it on all the time. I don't know why, but it sounds better after being o...
Better sounding after 1 hour I leave solid state parts of my system on 24/7 and I can hear a difference if unplugged for a bit to swap something out and then replugged. It really takes a full day to get everything sounding good again, especially toroid transformer gear. That'...
Interconnect cable, $150 max For headphone setup I'm using Purist Audio Design Vestas. Bottom of the line from a super high end company. I've used their more expensive cables and I haven't been disappointed with the Vesta in my new smaller space.
Best value in speaker cables?? Avondale Audio Black Link. Awesome cables from the UK for NAIM but I use them with Joule Amps and Audience ClairAudient speakers and they sound at least as good as the Nordost Frey I had in this system before. I use a 12ft run and I think there's ...
DV 20X-L: Sutherland, Dynavector P75 or Heed.... I went P75 with my DV20xl and it's an awesome unit. It's also a nice match for a Denon DL103 if you want to try something else. I've heard a lot of lower cost phono pres and the P75 is my favorite.
LDR Active Preamp - does it exist? The only one I know of that's not $40k is the old Melos SHA Gold. There's one on listed here now if it hasn't been sold. I've had an LDR for years. Wouldn't swap it for anything. I'd change amps first. Also, you may want to check with Uriah Dailey...
New cart for under 1K I have a P75 and used to have a 20x2. Replaced it with a Denon DL103 and nuded the cartridge (or you can buy from Soundsmith already nuded or Zu in an aluminum housing... all good). If you put the P75 in special mode, it's pretty awesome with a DL...
Gyrodec vs Well Tempered Amadeus By the way, I've owned both a Gyro SE and a Simplex and I prefer the Simplex. It's just so much simpler to setup (no cartridge alignment necessary and azimuth adjusting on the fly!) and I think sonically, at least to my ears, I prefer the WT. I wa...
phono stage with two inputs Herron VTPH2 is well liked. You can find one used in your price range occasionally.
Gyrodec vs Well Tempered Amadeus Call Peter at Venice Audio. He's awesome and always has one set up. I bought a WT Simplex and other stuff from him. 310 437 0515www.veniceaudio.com
Best Preamp with Phono $2300 Max? Hmmm. Not sure how to respond to that! When we moved she was actually the one to encourage me to spend more money on the new system than I had on the old and when I complain about the sound, she's the one that says "Feel free to buy something to m...
