stupid question about sources, amps, and loudness
Daverz, yeah that's what I got too (good to know I can do math even if I can't figure out component matching). Thank you.So...back to my main question. As a separate issue, I am interested in trying tube amps (never had them before). So what I wan...
stupid question about sources, amps, and loudness
Daverz, thanks very helpful....by sensitivity, you mean input sensitvity of the amp, right?
stupid question about sources, amps, and loudness
Ckoffend, thanks. I can't find a gain spec on the amps. They do have an input sensitivity of 1.2 V. I actually tried the amps with a different CDP. Same issue. I can attenuate the output of the pre-amp with internal jumpers by 20 db. But the sound...
90 degree angle banana plug?
Both Tributaries and IXOS make them (I've also seen some others but can't remember the brand). Google "angle banana plug"
lowering gain in a tubed pre-amp
Well --The jumper change made a huge difference -- in fact too much of a good thing. The Nagra jumpers attenuate a whopping 20 db. So now the volume control is between 12 O'clock and 4 O'clock. That's definitely better than before but....Anyawy, O...
Solid state amp for Totem Model 1`s
Agree with the need for juice with Totems I used Bel Canto amps to power my Totem Forests and Model 1 Signatures with pretty good results.
lowering gain in a tubed pre-amp
Onhwy61 -- well, that was sure stupid of me. You are essentially correct: the modulometer per se does not lower the gain, but there are jumpers in the pre designed to do just this -- it's been a long time since I looked at the owner's manual. So TH...
2.0 or 3.0 or 4.0 for HT Movie Audio?
For my home theater set up, I ditched the center a long time ago and have never looked back. With good left and rigth speakers near the TV, I don't miss it. My understanding is that if I had people sitting very far to one side of the TV or the oth...
whole house surge protector?
All --Thanks for your responses. Most appreciated. I will look into the EP2050. I must say my reaction is similar to Cwlondon's.
Lexicon RT-20 for SACD
In my opinion yes. Lots of dissing of the RT-20 on this site, and yet there are several European reviews that describe it as a top performer. I had an RT-20 in my system for a short time and was very pleased with it. I went to a much pricier UDP f...
What Outlets?
My advice is to try a few different types and see what sounds best in your system. They don't cost much, can easily be resold, and it's not very difficult swap an outlet. They do sound different. Others will tell you this is nonsense. The Audiogon...
Tube amp advice

WAF Help Please
Found some great expandable braided sleeve stuff on ebay. Thanks for the excellent suggestions.
Tube amp advice
This is very helpful. Thanks everyone. Part of the reason I like the Kharmas is their small size. Not sure I'm ready to go back to something massive. I really do appreciate the suggestions and will check them out.
