Best CD I've heard so far 2011.........
The James Blake album is a hynoptic lullaby-- the best accompaniment to an afternoon cat-nap since Susanna "Flower of Evil".
When does the law diminishing returns kick in?
The further I go, the more I separate the cost equation from the more interesting subject of how we measure sound quality. A certain expenditure buys a high quality system. Above that price point, a relatively small and sometimes even inexpensive ...

Hot Tuna "Steady as She Goes" is a welcome surprise from Levon Helm's Woodstock studio. Well crafted at moments nervy combo of electric & acoustic blues Tuna, softened in spots by Jorma's country heart persona. With aging the voice is less ree...
Jamming with JAMO?
There is a R909 review in which several other open-baffle designs are considered at:http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/jamo/909.htmlOf those discussed I've heard Linkwitz Orion and Legacy Whisper sound good at shows. In addition to these, the Lowt...

Ditto Fleet Foxes. On first listen new TV on the Radio is mostly a flop. Keep hoping they'll top Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes. New Eleventh Dream Day, The Walkmen, Low Anthem.
Denon DL-103R cartridge update
Are you sure that the speakers are the equidistant from each ear? In a high resolution stereo, even a small disparity in timing can sound like a shift in L to R balance. The HF extension of vinyl reveals this more than CD. Try moving the louder sp...

Thanks, Richard. I've been on the fence about buying the new Mountain Goats LP, and will now proceed.Among recent releases, Low "C'Mon" and Panda Bear "Tomboy" are high water marks for both artists. These and new Foo Fighters are fine vinyl.

Richard, Bill Callahan has evolved into one of most original voices out there, but perhaps Apocalpse is too far out there for most in here. His last one, "Rough Travel for a Rare Thing"(live) is just as great & more accessible.
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
I've been listening to Duelund 2.0 V2 wire for several days now in modified Merlin VSM-MX. 2.0 replaced stock Cardas copper bulk wire of perhaps 15awg. It's nowhere near broken in but initially promising. Similar to Volleyguy I'm principally heari...
Review: Green Mountain Audio Eos vs Callisto Monitor
"Two people have cried, one guy would not get out of my chair and just sat there with his eyes closed for 1/2 an hour. Another woman just started dancing around the room with a big smile on her face."Now that perfectly describes my family room on ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul, glad to hear that you like the DL-S1 as well. I bought mine from Comet Supply for USD$525 delivered. Comet listed it as out-of-stock, but my sample arrived in 10 days.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Downunder, The Factory data sheet shows the Dl-S1 flat out to 70kHz with a 47K load. So far this is where I have it, though there are anecdotal reports on the net that it likes several hundred ohms.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Nandric, Hopefully you can hear that DL-S1 with sufficient phono stage gain to obviate a step-up transformer. While my MM phono stage is down for repairs I've been thoroughly enjoying a DL-S1. The performance is way above the price and certainly r...
Review: Denon DL 103R Cartridge
Just picked up a new Denon DL-S1 at a well-discounted price not much greater than the 103R. The DL-S1 is Denon's top model, with low output similar to the 103R, but a higher 40ohm impedance and a medium-compliance suspension. The DL-S1 should make...
