Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hello Acman3, The removable Trans-Fi headshell is in progress at the shop and should be finished next month. It will have front and rear counterweights and an uninterrupted balanced harness from the bayonet receptable to the phono stage, probably ...
Feedback blew my phono stage?
Hello Halcro, I'm inclined to accord with ct0517 that"if you want to keep that white shelf, the Victor/armpods in that TT location – you need to add a level on top of that shelf that the Victor and armpods all join to for isolation. This will then...
Best Rock Album in 2012
Bob Mould's Silver Age is his strongest in a string of recent good ones-- including 2012 vinyl reissues of two seminal Sugar albums. Mould is a kind of thinking man's Josh Homme, with rock roots as deep as Frank Black but without the recognition f...
Repair a Sony SCD 777ES?
Swampwalker, sorry, I wrote that Sony mntc. procedure from personal experience and with input from Richard Kern, an early Sony modifier. I have no experience with Denon.
Repair a Sony SCD 777ES?
Remove the top cover, the transport billet section, and clean and relube. This solves the problem 80% of the time:SCD-1/777ES Transport Maintenance1. Tilt up top cover at rear of CDP and disconnect ribbon harness that secures top cover to Main Boa...

Dear Nandric, the Acutex 4XX-series manual mentions use of "space-age[cantilever] materials like boron and titanium." One may presume that this would at least apply to the top 420 model.

Thanks, Ecir38. I now see that there is a minor bug in SS's F9 URL link. There are two lines in the link to get further info on the Grace F9: one line leads to the F9 template and the other line leads to the Zephyr template.

Lewm, I would have increased confidence in SS's $500 Grace Ruby stylus if Peter would post the promised photo of the product and fix the URL order link that currently describes a VPI Zephyr.
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Grannyring, Trust me on this-- with a film cap supply you can go lower than the stock values of the replaced electrolytics-- a 50% ratio is conservative.
Eminent Technology ET-2 Tonearm Owners
Ct0517, on my TransFi the "loom problem" is compounded by slightly thicker discretely shielded wires, and by the extra wires required for a balanced circuit. The feather-lite short wand is particularly vulnerable to fouling.http://cgim.audiogon.co...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
This is an opportunity to substitute compact segmented thin-film metalized polyprop technology in place of electrolytics in PS. The SEG technology has less than 1/100th the ESR of any electrolytic, allowing substitution of a film capacitor at 1/10...

John, this is a flat-nose M320. The repair was EUR 87 delivered-- an excellent value to get this cartridge back up on its hinds. I'm unsure but it looks like a new armature tab telescope/collar was fitted to the original tip. Next step is to send ...

The M320 III STR with original diamond and Axel's refreshed suspension is a killer. It has slam similar to M420 STR, but is more natural, nuanced, and refined all across FR. There is better front-to-back layering, and no sense of exaggeration as w...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Raul, FWIW for a few years I've been exchanging impressions with a number of Trans-Fi owners who have supplanted decent pivots such as top VPI, Graham, and SME. I've never found a soul who, once the set-up has been sorted, prefers a pivot arm...
Best Rock Album in 2012
Father John Misty (aka Joshua Tillman) FEAR FUN. He's grown gonads since the Fleet Foxes, aborbing what he needs of the psyche folk scene, Beatles, Gram Parsons, Dead. Interesting inversion of the Pastor persona. A well-recorded LP with occasional...
