Using an external word clock with Esoteric cd/sacd players Yikes, for $44K I'd like to see more than two outputs on that. I'm using five outputs on my Perf 10: K01X, two SOtM endpoints, one SOtM ethernet hub, and an Antelope frequency divider into a Tascam DSD recorder.
Using an external word clock with Esoteric cd/sacd players I’m using a 10mhz Stanford Research Systems Perfection 10 with a K-01X. The Mutec is also well regarded. Be sure to get one with the correct impedance for your player. Some Esoterics call for 75 ohm, others 50 ohm.

Who’s a good alternative to MCM electronics supply Pretty much everything I need comes from Digikey, Mouser, Allied Electronics, and McMaster Carr.
linn sondek tt After slogging through those six instructional youtube videos, it looks like most of the set-up and adjustment process is routine and achievable within the skillset of a reasonably handy owner. No dog in this fight, but the several knowledgeable ...
Data cable needs for best performance. Cat X? I've tried several generic Cat 5/6/7 cables and heard modest differences. For a bit more money, the Swedish Jenving Supra Cat 8 is a significant improvement.
TIDAL-Who knows what you are hearing? Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Accessing Tidal through Roon, all albums sorted to the Tidal Masters list are MQA, but there are many more MQA albums in Tidal that don’t sort to the Tidal Masters list. You have to stumble through each artist to find all the MQA ones. With Roon, ...
Has anybody tried the Star Sound Tech-Platter Ground? This has been around for several years. I have used it on a Luxman PD444 and an SP10 MkII, both with copper platters. I compared it to a Stillpoints LPI. The Platter Ground works well and does about the same thing as the LPI at reduced cost. The i...
What’s wrong with Diana Krall? @schubert Well, Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode is out there on Voyager 1, and will be rock'in long after you’re gone.
Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming I can't hear a meaningful difference between CD/SACD discs on my Esoteric K-01X and files or Tidal into the USB interface of the K-01X. However, the Ethernet-to-USB conversion needs to be of high quality. In this instance, Roon DSP engine on QNA...
What is the most dramatic way of increasing a speaker's Bass and Low mid? Bobby liked them around 6.5’ apart, the listener around 9.5’ from each speaker, and a bit more toe in than you might expect. Stay fairly close to that. Also, periodically clean tarnish off the bare copper binding posts and torque down the screws on...
What is the most dramatic way of increasing a speaker's Bass and Low mid? I've been all over the VSMs: LPS for BBAM, replacement of stock Hovland mylar caps in crossover with ClarityCap CMR, replacement of stock Caddock resistors with TX2575s and Dueland graphite resistors, bucking magnet on the 8545, silver wire inside...
What is the most dramatic way of increasing a speaker's Bass and Low mid? Rough sand off the lacquer coating the perimeter of the steel plate that covers the stock magnet. Rough sand the mating surface of the donut shaped bucking magnet. Place the driver face down on a level surface. Thinly coat both surfaces with 5 min...
What is the most dramatic way of increasing a speaker's Bass and Low mid? Actually, one way to embellish and raise output of the Scanspeak 8545 mid/woofer relative to the Esotar tweeter is to add a Scanspeak bucking magnet. This doubles the 8545's magnet structure and raises output by several db-- as suggested by Tony G...
What is the most dramatic way of increasing a speaker's Bass and Low mid? Doug, the elegance of the Merlin VSM/BBAM design was that a Scanspeak 8545 driver has sufficient excursion to be EQ’d into a full-range midrange/bass driver, provided that the EQ fully attenuates frequencies below 30hz. Its admittedly constrained ... |
