MC Cartridge break-in?
I don't really know. Before I had a Goldmund arm, which has a repeat, so I could use an old decrepid LP, I didn't like, I simply had to exercise patience and waited until the music began to bloom.
How BIG is yours?
True, Kelly true!
How BIG is yours?
I've been collecting since the late fiftees and I've stopped counting the LPs long ago. Mostly classical and Jazz though. Goes into many thousands and takes up lots of space. Everytime I had to move house, the movers thought me nuts, which I proba...
MC Cartridge break-in?
WDa, yes definitely. The harsh sound is typical. Mind you, you need to do a differential diagnosis as far as VTA is concerned. See that you have that right. But after about 19 hours of playing, you will notice a change in the sound, more bloom, be...
Spades or bananas
Right Frank, I suppose that was also the reason that Enid Lumley finally gave up and dissapeared from the high end. She did such a perfect dissapearing act, that nobody seems to know about here whereabouts and what she is up to. As you say, her he...

Care to share your scams?
Care for some Euroscam? Well here goes: Those guys, who are urgently in need of cash, because granny is in hospital and has no medical aid, so they'll sell you their new leather jacket, or their Rolex or those little one ounce gold bars for practi...

John Dunlavy On "Cable Nonsense"
Pbb, very interesting post. By the way, Bob Carver of Sunfire fame, maintained quite a few years ago, that he could voice his electronics in any way he pleased, to emulate the sound of say earlier tube gear and, so I am told, he proved it successf...

How does one get off the merry-go-round?
Sure is, Mark! Love your wry humour! but I'm sure you'll soon be back in there again. Time heals wounds and checkbooks!
scd 777es sacd sony mod worth it?
RCprince, its too early for me to tell, to give you a really well considered answer, but last night a disk refused to play in SACD mode but did in CD and I was quite flabberghasted how good it sounded. In a quick "test", my Purcell, ML rig sounded...
Quads or Maggies?
Well spoken Audiokinesis! My ears found the 988 voiced differently to the 63. I think, the emphasis you rightly mention, has been evened out, at least, it seemed to be in direct comparison. To me the 988 seemed just a tiny tad darker. By the way, ...
scd 777es sacd sony mod worth it?
Jonathan, Robert at Audience actually told me, it would in time be better than the Levinson stuff. Well, I'm sceptical, but we'll see. Its broken in for about 70 hours now and I noticed a great leap forward in transparence , dynamics and general m...
Have you heard SACD?
Aida w, I cannot find fault with what you are saying, but obviously you have not suffered as much in trying to listen to CDs-this goes only for classical, big orchestral music - as I have. I agree SACD, especially if its a hissy classical transfer...
