Ohm Walsh Talls and amplification Given how much I like the Pass Labs with mine, if I were on a budget I would look for a used BAT VK200.They can be found in the 1k range, sometimes even less. They sound very similar to Pass Labs IMO and would do a great job.
Had anybody listened to JTR speakers? Yes. Fun listen for sure.
New Speaker Conundrum - Vandy's, Spendors, Salk, Ascend - Mainstream or ID I'm real familiar with Salk, and currently the SS 9.5 is the "best" Jim is building. They don't have much in common with Tekton, I've heard the Tektons several times. From a build quality standpoint, you won't find better fit and finish than Jim...
New Speaker Conundrum - Vandy's, Spendors, Salk, Ascend - Mainstream or ID Jim Salk builds an outstanding speaker. But what are you looking for in a speaker, what is most important to you sonically? I've owned SS8's, and have some SS12's being built. But Jim has other models also like the SS 9.5 etc...Can't go wrong wit...
Do expensive cables/wires REALLY make a difference I'm what you would call a skeptic (beyond a certain point). I never used zip cord for instance, but won't spend a ton.I try cables in and out of the system here and there.I can say that I am 100% convinced that the USB cable upgrade to my DAC mad...
Ohm Walsh Talls and amplification Zero doubt in my mind that my 5000's (and now Pro-3000's) highlight differences in equipment changes more so than many other speakers I've owned. It's pretty remarkable. One of the more recent speakers I have owned is the DynAudio Contour 60.The O...
Ohm Walsh Talls and amplification I think any decent amp can power them up just fine. They will however respond quite well to added power and upstream upgrades. I’m very surprised how revealing they are compared to others I’ve owned of differences in sources. As for the size, I thi...
Are there any current high end dipole speakers (dynamic)? Consider OHM's, Salk makes a few models with an open back option which can add some ambience. DefTech still makes bi-polar.. or high dollar options like German Physiks and MBL are omni-polar.I also like that added ambience so I get it. I currentl...
Exploring Preamp options for the Pass XA25 @t_ramey currently. OHM Walsh 5000's...Also have had DynAudio Contour 60's, Klipsch Epic CF-4's hooked up for long test runs. For kicks I had some old OHM Pro-200's hooked up (sounded suprisingly good). At a friends house I've heard Salk SS12's ho...
Exploring Preamp options for the Pass XA25 I've been happy with my XP-12 and 250.8 combo. What would you like your new combo to do differently from what you have?
What type of Amp for Ohm Walsh F-5015s? @mapman I have often thought that a tube pre-amp with a Class D amp might make a lot of sense. Conceptually it makes a lot of sense to me as opposed to a tube pre-amp with a tube-amp.. that always makes me wonder what flavor are you getting from...
What type of Amp for Ohm Walsh F-5015s? While OHM's love power (and I agree) with the 5015's I believe the can's will be cut-off at 80hz and those class D amps will push the subs nicely.I've been quite surprised how the OHM's really do showcase different amps. I happen to have a Pass L...
Need Perfect Speakers for Acoustically Hostile Placement @mapman those little realistic speakers were overachievers back in the day!
I am Looking for That Elusive 3 Dimensional Room Filling Soundstage Be careful with room treatment. Go slow, consider the speakers. OHM recommends a live front end and treated mid/rear of the room. I have my room set up differently based on speakers and a room can be overtreated. You might get a precise sounds...
I am Looking for That Elusive 3 Dimensional Room Filling Soundstage @faxer Can they be had for 2k, that was one of the OP guidelines?Tough to tell as the GTAW website is a bit of a mess. I'd like to hear them though. |
