How can I tell if I am overdriving the amp or the speakers? You've probably arrived at that certain age when you must pay the price for your extravagant volume habit. Surprised you hear anything but tinnitus.
Turn off or leave on? All solid state gear should be left ON all the time. That's their happy zone. My domestic keeper has tried over and over to find enough excess electricity usage to make the case against power-on but has failed miserably.
Audiophiles on Audiogon. +1 Hilde Last time I looked at ASR, I thought about posting something inflammatory like this just to watch all the electricians jerk their knees. I think we may have been punked.
Power Cables and Wall Sockets For what it's worth, I use the Maestro outlets with a dedicated line. The sound is extraordinarily quiet and dynamic. The outlets could be a little grippier. Used cables make the most sense for me and I've never had a problem with any of them.
American Made Audio Products Oh dear! Welcome to hifi as Theraputic Patriotism! But still, there's no reason why we should be in any way dependent upon Russia for vacuum tubes!
How can I tell if I am overdriving the amp or the speakers? It's called "distortion," and you should turn it down until it doesn't hurt behind your ears--you know. That's how loud you can play it for now. Next step is make an upgrade to lower the noise. Begin with cables. Enjoy. It's fun!
Good Product or Nonsense? I have some of thatĀ Meguire's Ceramic car sealer/spray. When the weather warms up I think I'll try it. Not to seal against moisture, but to seal against anything else. Rainex is another product I'd like to see tested on discs. Searching YouTube.
Western Electric looking for consumer feedback to make new tubes! Wow, it's good to hear some optimistic news! Thanks for the link. The very idea that we wouldn't be able to get quality tubes produced anywhere but Russia was laughable.
Amir and Blind Testing Amir does us all a great service with his site and all the testing. I rarely find fault with any of his useful illustrations. Go Amir! The problem with Amir is what comes after the measurements. I want to know what he found but when he begins the...
Denver and Front Range furniture maker -- just did my audio rack! hilde45 Just installed Gaia speaker footers. WOW! Will review in more detail after more listening. Repeat: WOW!
Denver and Front Range furniture maker -- just did my audio rack! Nice buy, professor! Will make note of the vendor. You're all set now. Put on some tunes and crack a cold one. As Beckett wrote: "Nothing to be done."
Is there any one piece of vintage gear you most wished you owned? Sequerra tuner!
Rate my system/advise I predict that you will be totally blown away by this system and will not be heard from again for many months. Enjoy!
Your single most significant purchase mistake? B&K 5.1 Surround Receiver Sounded good but when it had a problem there was nobody to be found. I left it sitting onĀ the service counter at Listen Up in Denver and walked out the door.
Nietzsche and Runaway Audio Consumption Takes my breath away! Was going to post, but the conversation has taken a turn toward mean, political dick wagging. Sorry. |
