A Couple Little Things I'm Wondering About
Hi definition light bulbs. Now there’s an idea. I saw an LED bulb on Amazon that had a bluetooth speaker in it!  Go for it!
Leave tube amps always on?
Such a fuss over a simple idea that’s backed by listener experience. Argue if you will about how much is costs to turn-on/off, replace tubes, etc. people who leave their gear on report better sound in the first hour or so. That’s the complete nut....
Charging A Fee To Demo An Amplifier In A Brick & Mortar Store
3 cheers for Mammothguy! The guy everyone wishes they could sell to. I’ll give thumbs-up in advance if he brings us a report. It would be especially interesting if you go in there with cash and then get “blown out” by some crummy shenanigans.That’...
A Couple Little Things I'm Wondering About
Let me get this right. So now we can’t hear any of the noise created by our gear, wires, home circuitry, carpets or jittery sources when we play music loudly? That’s when we hear it the most! If the S/N ratio is 60db (below normal conversation) yo...
Thanks Audiogon !
Good Job AG!
Charging A Fee To Demo An Amplifier In A Brick & Mortar Store
OK, katzenjammers, I apologize upfront if this gets pedantic, but I’m thinking from experience here and it’s kinda up my alley. Back in the golden years (1970-1990) I benefitted from all the yuppies-coming-of-age (I was one) and the simultaneous r...
Member Almarg passed away last night
How sad. My condolences.Another good audiophile down.Take care of yourselves out there. Especially old timers from the 70s/80s. Each one we lose represents a serious loss of experience, knowledge and wisdom that contributes daily to an entire “soc...
Main Audiogon site barely works?
I told them not to put in that power conditioner!
the sound of massed violins in classical orchestral recordings
So many great posts on this one. You’ve all given me a great sense of relief as you report experiences that parallel mine. After a virus-driven (bored) series of updates, cables and tweaks, I still get the orchestral hash under extreme volume passa...
odyssey kismet monpblock
I am the third owner of a 20 yr old Stratos DM (Dual-monos stuffed into one chassis, including 2 toroidals and 2 power cords). This amp is a high performance monster with loads of current, soundstage, depth, and terrific low noise. I had one probl...
Offer / counter-offer? Audiogon rules
One of the problems here is the obvious disagreement over VALUE.In my completely unfounded opinion (CUO), the main weakness with bargaining is the implicit admission by both parties that 1) they don’t know how much it’s really worth and 2) they’re...
Preamp suggestions, yes again
The only help I can give you is to report on my Odyssey power amp. I am 3d owner of what I think is Klaus’s biggest single amp about 20 years ago: Stratos Dual-Mono. One cabinet with 2 big toroidals and even 2 IEC 15’s for separate power cables. I...
Margin on speaker sales by high end dealer
With all the pissing and moaning over the demise of retail audio, it’s wise to remember that retailers do not work for free. The only material benefit I can think of for an audio retailer is the opportunity to buy gear from their manufacturers at ...
Audio Research Sold
Here’s hoping for a huge ARC Clearance Sale!!!Consolidation of the marketplace is happening before our ears.Retailers closing; manufacturers going online-direct, their reps being leapfrogged; FEDEX drivers herniated by daily deliveries and  pickup...
High Performance Audio - The End?
ISAHWPWQTATAATDTMUOOWCBTATLTTIAO!I sure as hell wish people would quit throwing around these acronyms they decided to make up out of whole cloth because they are too lazy to type it all out!If it’s not LOL or OMG, etc. please type the phrase the f...
