Recomend Some Albums Recorded with True Imaging.
Some good tips so far.   I wasn't thinking that some record labels would specialize in "natural" recordings and will keep my eye out for them.  I did see Mercury Living Presence issued some collector box sets with 50 CDs each.  Instant classical ...
What is "break in" and what difference does it make? In amps? Preamps? Speakers? More?
You just said it yourself. The dielectric material needs to break in. That itself explains why interconnects, speaker cables, power cords, HDMI cables, digital cables, etc. require break in. Hel-loo! Just because there is the same dielectric word ...
What is "break in" and what difference does it make? In amps? Preamps? Speakers? More?
I am pretty sure everyone agrees speakers need some kind of break in. They are mechanical devices and it takes a while for the cone / surround to become pliable. Next on my list is anything with capacitors. The new dielectric undergoes some change...
Before the music emerges from your speakers....
Note her comments on the use of compression; done with a 'light touch' it seems a standard practice to 'sweeten'/'dial down' certain elements of a recording. Compression can work both ways.  A small amount of compression can be beneficial in th...
THD In Light Bulbs
There is more to electronic noise than the THD.   Power factor also comes into play.   The OP's bulbs  seem to be pretty good with a Power Factor >.90.   Many of the cheap ones are not Enerystar rated have a power factor ~50%.   That means tha...
Moving cables around killed dynamics for days anyone else experience this?
geoffkait- Another “audiophile oddity” is that unused cables in the listening room hurt the sound. Take them out of the room ASAP. Unused electronics in the room and musical instruments in the room also hurt the sound. No, I’m not hot doggin’ ya! ...
Polarity Conundrum
Its reasonable to think you want your system to play with the correct polarity but not all recording are mixed with the correct polarity.  So it is hard to know what you are listening too.  According to this site 92% of CDs are inverted polarity. ...
Is grounding with RCA is safe?
In most components the circuit ground is directly connected to the chassis. And the chassis is connected to power cord ground. Pretty sure all common ground amplifiers are set up that way. You would not want to try your RCA trick with a non common...
Speaker terminal Loose
You can’t always blame the banana plug. Different manufacturers used slightly different binding posts over the years. I have gear where the same plug fits tightly in one component and loose in the other. Some plugs also fit deeper in some of my sp...
Speaker terminal Loose
Millercarbon.   You are correct about sacrificing spring action and sonics.  Having a pure copper base is always better than less conductive brass.  But copper is soft and difficult to machine.  That is why you still see most "high end" speaker ...
Speaker terminal Loose
Are your Furutech bananas the kind with the split hollow tube at the end?  If they are just get a small screwdriver and open them up a bit.
Watts and power
In general if an amp can double down (100wats @ 8 ohms, 200 @ 4, 400 @ 2) that means it has a well made power supply and can supply the necessary current.   It also usually means there is usually good power reserves to cover transient peaks. The on...
Speakers for audio and home theater
Polk is closing out their LSiM line and they are currently selling for 50% off direct from Polk.  Adorama has the 705's a little cheaper at $650 each.  These were Polks flagship line but they are being phased out.  And for 2K you could also get a ...
Does raising speaker cables off the floor really make a big difference?

Does raising speaker cables off the floor really make a big difference?
This thread is better than beers. Better even than self-indulgence. I experimented with using beer cans as cable risers.  I would drink a beer then used the empty can as a riser.   And guess what?  By the time I finished it worked.
