Will tubes rock?
Pinetop: How large is your listening room? This will help determine what amps may and may not work. And yes, I feel that tubes do rock when paired with the right speakers (my 7 watt per channel 300b tube amp does anyway). I also have an inexpensiv...
Win a power cord.
Kevin: On a more serious note, would you be willing to make up "extension" cords (12' to 24') based on the BC power cord design, or would the increase in length mess up the sound? I might also need a longer PC (12') for the amp. I am moving my gea...
Best Integrated
PC stands for power cord.
Win a power cord.
How about naming your best cord (with the best plugs) "Krazy Kord" and a budget cord "Ignatz".
Blue room s alien minipods
I just ran across the Pods in LA earlier this week but did not have time to audition them, will try next week. The spec sheet stated 90db @ 1 watt @ 4ohms, so they should be easy to push if the impedence is fairly level. The cabinet was made of pl...
California electrical shortage audio
Massvm: I then have been using the term "Brown out" incorrectly to describe the situation where the power drops for only a small portion of a second. This is what I am experiencing at this time (if the APC unit is accurate in testing for this). It...
California electrical shortage audio
I live in LA and have been able to monitor the frequency of the Brown outs with an APC power supply that I recently added to our computer. The APC has a "chirp" alarm that goes off when the power drops. Well, it chirps merrily all morning and thro...
inexpensive hdcd player or dac
The tempo and urgency of a CAL Icon MkII can easily be increased by using the very inexpensive Homegrown Audio Super Silver analog IC's (which, though inexpensive, are great IC's anyway, IMO). Further improvement can be had by upgrading the power ...
New Music vs. New Equipment
I am lucky in that I live in an area where used CD's are available in the $1 to $8 price range. Most of what I purchase is in the $1 to $3 range and I purchase on an average average, at the least, 20 CD's per month. They come from a local flea mar...
Isolation vs. Absorbtion
Hi Ken: So is that a yes on the metal "L" bar approach? Riveteer does actually ring just like a "bad" bell (I have done my fair share of Quasimoto impressions while putting it up and taking it down), but this is reduced when it is solidly locked t...
Favorite music of the 90 s
"Mon Coeur se Recommande a Vous" by Meli Melo a choral group from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Kind of like Catholic choir meets do-wop. This is a beauty, IMO.
Isolation vs. Absorbtion
Well, I have been looking at various pre made metal shelf units that are available and unfortunately the ones that I like are way over $1000.00. What I am considering trying is Riveteer such as is used in super markets as support for Maple shelves...
Wanting to uppgrade old NAD preamp/amp
If you are coming in at around $700.00US you might consider starting out with just a preamp (with phono) and continue to use the NAD power amp. You may be able to pick up a nice used tube Conrad Johnson pre with phono at that price.
CD player with good error correction
I use a CAL Icon MK II as a tranport (used it solo before) and it plays just about anything as long as you cannot feel the scratch with you finger nail. Not a perfect test, mind you, but I purchase on an average five used CD's a week and they all ...
