Isolation vs. Absorbtion
Jayboard: I checked both sets and they are OK. The only problem is that the sheet metal on the bottom of the CAL player is not completely flat. The cones however when tested on a sheet of glass with a little moisture between are very close. Thanks...
Keeping cables off the floor
Jim: Well we can't win them all or any sometimes. It must be a CA thing, we made drapes out of souviner table cloths for the spare bedroom (anything goes). I searched the Audio Asylum site Cable Forum using "cable and floor" and "cable and carpet"...
Keeping cables off the floor
I like the napkin ring idea myself. I wonder if you could find a cheap heavy coordinating base to glue to the bottom of each one (like little blocks or flat rounds of trophy marble or ceramic) and skip lining the ring itself as they should be elev...
spades vs. bananas
I agree with Bill as I have used good examples of both in soldered and solderless form. I do however think that a bare wire connection sounds different, better IMO.
Freak Me Out
Here's an easy one to find: The soundstrack to "Interview with the Vampire" on Geffen. I am using it right now to test a power conditioner on the mini system.
Keeping cables off the floor
Jim: I am just guessing, but soft wood vibrates a lot. Other than clearing my cables from the carpet fiber I also find that the sound gets muted when they touch the walls as well and assume that they must be picking up vibration received and then ...
Isolation vs. Absorbtion
Brulee: My memory as well as my old emails are wiped out, but I am pretty sure that you are just an hour North of me. If so, let's wait until we can hang or take a road trip together. If my memory is wrong please let me know and I would then like ...
Traded the Most ?
(1) Isolation components (gobs, both purchased and DIY). (2) speakers (four pairs in eight months) (3) IC's (four different ones as well). (4) amps (three, and still use two in different systems. Still using my first "upgraded" PC's but those are ...
Best amp under 1k
You could use a 2A3 based amp with your 100db speakers or a 300b based amp with either speaker (single ended amps). I have listened to a few models of both and find them to be more 3D than anything that I have experienced before which includes bot...
"warm " full rangespeakers ,II
Jm Reynaud or Silverline speakers if you have a budget over $5K. I own smaller Reynauds and have only heard about the larger models by word of mouth. I can audition the Reynauds locally but am afraid to do so:-) I have auditioned the Silverline's ...
decware zen se84cs or anthem int 2
I tried out an older version (perhaps one of the first as the chassis was not even painted) of the Decware amp with a pair of Klipch Chorus II speakers and it was very musical and 3d sounding. More so than any vintage push/pull tube amp that I hav...
Power/Line conditioner
Well, I could not wait and tried the Audion amp (last night) direct into the wall on a different (but not dedicated) line than the front end components and the Monster are running from. The dynamics were definately increased on the low wattage amp...
Isolation vs. Absorbtion
PS: Everything has also changed with the new 300b amp and I may have to start from scratch again and try everthing that I have already done all over. The first thing that I have noticed is that I can tilt the HF's up much more without is bugging m...
Isolation vs. Absorbtion
Brulee: How thick is your Maple platform and is it butcherblock or of a simpler vertical glue/lam design. I am still using 3/4" Maple (not butcherblock). I do not want to cut up my 5' 2 1/2" thick Maple butcherblock yet as I may want to use it in ...
Isolation vs. Absorbtion
Darn it Jayboard, now I am going to have to pull the Mapleshade cones and check their level. When I tried the Racing cones between my player and an MDF platform resting on Vibrapods I found the sound to be kind of "etched" for lack of a better wor...
